15 years ago I used to work for the Electronic Frontier Foundation. I’m still a fan and supporter, but sometimes they take really weird positions that is more like a politically correct weird religion cult – and HTTPS Everywhere is an example of that. And they are influencing the web to go along and discriminate against unencrypted web sites, like this one. Google sent me this notification.

Chrome will show security warnings on http://www.dvorak.org

To owner of http://www.dvorak.org,

Starting October 2017, Chrome (version 62) will show a “NOT SECURE” warning when users enter text in a form on an HTTP page, and for all HTTP pages in Incognito mode.

The following URLs on your site include text input fields (such as < input type=”text” > or < input type=”email” >) that will trigger the new Chrome warning. Review these examples to see where these warnings will appear, so that you can take action to help protect users’ data.

I have about 50+ web sites to deal with and I’m just not going to do it. This is a really bad idea and I wouldn’t have a problem with it if it weren’t a tremendous hassle and totally useless.

I live on St. John. This was the village of Cruz Bay the day after Hurricane Irma. I boarded up my house yesterday and evacuated to San Juan. Of course, we have another hurricane coming Wednesday. Yesterday was the first day I have been able to communicate since the storm.

The road to my house.

Better Days.

Donald Trump will soon announce that he is switching parties from Republicans to Democrat. Trump is already laying the groundwark and testing the waters for such a switch. In the last week he has:

  1. Did a deal with Dems to raise the debt ceiling and avoid a government shutdown.
  2. Reversed his position on DACA.
  3. Announced that America will not pull out of the Paris climate agreement after all.

Trump is angry at Republicans who can’t govern and most of which didn’t even show up at his nominating convention in 2016. Trump like Schumer – and he doesn’t like McConnell, and he doesn’t like the Russia investigation. So he thinking “Screw ’em. I’m becoming a Democrat!”

Ann Culter is calling for his impeachment.

Wow! I didn’t know that current iPhones didn’t have face recognition. Android has had that for years. My HTC 10 has it.

Hillary’s book is out and I haven’t read it but most everything that when wrong started with email or things that were exposed because of email. Clearly if the Dems hope to win an election they need to run a candidate smart enough to use email correctly.

So – writing this as an email security expert Hillary running state department emails through her personal server was criminal, was a felony, and was extremely dangerous to our national security. And to this day – she doesn’t get it. Yes – she says that what she did was wrong – but she has no concept of how wrong it was. How much damage did it do? Trump is president.

Sometimes I try to picture myself being the IT guy at the state department screaming at her that “No Hillary! You can’t do that!” I’m sure I would have been fired. But in the Obama administration higher ups never got prosecuted.

And because her personal email and state department emails were mixed together a lot of her state department emails ended up in the wrong places. Republicans investigating her would have had then if she just went by the rules and used the secure email system provided to her.

In my previous post I said Harvey wasn’t a global warming indicator because it just happened to stall in the wrong spot. However Irma is not only massive but intense. The kind of storm you get when there is global warming. This doesn’t prove anything by itself but bigger and stronger storms and global warming are linked. If someone calls this one global warming – I’m not going to argue against it.

We are putting CO2 into the air and that will cause some global warming.

The other issue – I wouldn’t want to be in a disaster with Trump as president. These storms are going to cut into his tax cuts for himself.

And – not caused by gay sex.

Hurricane Harvey was a Category 4 hurricane not unlike every other category 4 hurricane except for one thing. It stalled over Houston and that’s what brought the record rain. So it wasn’t, as climate alarmist would have you believe, global warming. If it stalled ove open water Houston would still have been flooded – but it would have been normal flooding. And one can not claim where it stalled was a result of climate change.

Also – Harvey is God punishing Houston for gay sex. If that were true it would have hit Austin, or Washington DC.

One star is their Yelp rating.

With Hurricane Harvey bearing down in Houston, Texas Senator Ted Cruz wants Congress to pass an aid bill to support the people of Texas. But when Hurricane Sandy destroyed the northeast the senators from Texas voted NO on aid for them.

The way I see it, it is wrong that Texas comes hat in hand asking for aid after voting to deny aid to others who are suffering for a hurricane disaster. And if I were a Senator from the northeast I would tell Texas that they should get down on there hand and knees and beg forgiveness before I’d give them a dime of aid. Yes – it is wrong to deny Americans in Texas aid during a disaster. But it is also wrong for Texas to vote against aid for Americans in New Your and New Jersey and Texas should have to at least confess their sins and ask the rest of America for absolution.

I’m still wondering if I can get used to not having a dashboard. Very cool minimalistic look. What do you think?

We are so screwed.

I don’t know what’s more offensive, that Trump is a racist or that he’s too stupid to know he’s a racist. He definitely is too stupid to hide it. Or is it a plan to deescalate tensions with North Korea or distract from the Russia investigation?

OK – this is very very weird. The above video is the tracking solar collector I built several years ago. It still works BTW. But here’s what’s weird. If you do a satellite view of my house from Google Maps – the collector is gone! However – the collector’s shadow is still there. My address is 7498 Chestnut St. Gilroy CA. Look at it yourself. This thing is big, and yet it’s gone!

Get even stranger. If I open up google maps in firefox it looks normal. But if I open it up in Chrome Browser my collector is gone.

I watched Al Gore’s Inconvenient Sequel and I was not impressed. But before I review it I’ll disclose my biases.

I’m of the opinion that there is some global warming but that we have more time to fix it than some alarmists would have you believe. There is no tipping point and the Earth isn’t going to turn into Venus. But putting pollution into the air is a bad idea and anything that reduces that is a good thing.

While I applaud those who generally increase environmental awareness I’m also a scientific purist and lying about science is worse than the benefits of stirring up environmentalists.

I also think it’s worthless to just talk about problems without talking about solutions. The “what are we going to do to fix it” is the most important part.

And, as you all know, the real hero in the environmental movement is Elon Musk who started Solarcity, the world’s biggest solar installer, the guy who made the electric car practical, and is now developing grid storage technology and building the world’s largest batter factory.

Having said that, here’s my review.

Unlike some of the junk Trek moves by J.J. – this is real Star Trek.

I didn’t see that coming. Discuss.
