If you’re sitting around somewhere in Boston whining about the heat and humidity, today — remember this!

150 years ago brave Americans under President Abraham Lincoln fought and died in a bloody war so that all people can be free and equal. We won that war – so why is it that in the 21st century that the South still hasn’t got the message?

The Confederate Flag is to black people what the Nazi flag is to Jews. It sends a message that blacks aren’t really free and equal members of society. For 150 years we have been pretending black people are free and equal while the truth is that we still have white supremacist states and a white supremacist culture where we allow the symbols of hate to be the symbols of government. When South Caroline flies the Confederate flag they are sending the message that the nig__rs better stay in their place.

But there is a new tool in place to fight the racist culture. On June 18th in the case of Walker v. Sons of Confederate Veterans that vehicle license plates were government speech and the government should not be demeaning black people. Based on this decision it’s time to start suing states over the use of the Confederate flag and at least get rid of what is clearly government sponsored racism.

Pope Francis has called on the world’s rich nations to begin paying their “grave social debt” to the poor and take concrete steps on climate change, saying failure to do so presents an undeniable risk to a “common home” that is beginning to resemble a “pile of filth”.

Donald Trump’s big presidential announcement Tuesday was made a little bigger with help from paid actors — at $50 a pop…New York-based Extra Mile Casting sent an email last Friday to its client list of background actors, seeking extras to beef up attendance at Trump’s event…

While I applaud Pope Francis for his interest in the environment the problem that’s driving climate change isn’t unsustainable consumption – it’s unsustainable population growth. If we don’t stop world wide population growth then no amount of austerity or technology is going to save us. We need birth control.

It’s simple math. If we cut our resource usage in half and the population doubles we have gained nothing. We live on a finite sized planet with a growing population. That isn’t sustainable.

One of the leading causes of population growth is the Catholic Church’s opposition to birth control. If the Pope is truly interested in climate change he should reverse this church policy. The Pope is in a unique position to impact the climate and it is irresponsible for him not to act. If the Pope reversed on birth control and asked families to limit themselves to 2 children he would have more impact on climate change than anything the United Nations can do.

Gov. Greg Abbott signed legislation that will create a state-run gold depository in the Lone Star State – one that will attempt to rival those operated by the U.S. government inside Fort Knox and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s vault in lower Manhattan. “The Texas Bullion Depository,” Abbott said in a statement, “will become the first state-level facility of its kind in the nation, increasing the security and stability of our gold reserves and keeping taxpayer funds from leaving Texas to pay for fees to store gold in facilities outside our state.”

Too funny! Turns out the head of Spokane NAACP is a white woman pretending to be black. (Can the NAACP discriminate based on race?)

Like Chris Rock and Larry the Cable Guy, Jerry Seinfeld avoids doing shows on college campuses. And while talking with ESPN’s Colin Cowherd on Thursday, the comedian revealed why: College kids today are too politically correct. “I hear that all the time,” Seinfeld said on The Herd with Colin Cowherd. “I don’t play colleges, but I hear a lot of people tell me, ‘Don’t go near colleges. They’re so PC.’”

ea72de572f4deefdfe4f3ee33b639a36Seinfeld says teens and college-aged kids don’t understand what it means to throw around certain politically-correct terms. “They just want to use these words: ‘That’s racist;’ ‘That’s sexist;’ ‘That’s prejudice,’” he said. “They don’t know what the f—k they’re talking about.” The funnyman went on to recount a conversation he and his wife had with their 14-year-old daughter, which he believes proved his point.

“My wife says to her, ‘Well, you know, in the next couple years, I think maybe you’re going to want to be hanging around the city more on the weekends, so you can see boys,’” Seinfeld recalled. “You know what my daughter says? She says, ‘That’s sexist.’”

This is still my current cell phone, the Motorola RAZR M (XT907). Back in 2012 I wrote an article Finally a Cell Phone I like where, like today, the new cell phones weren’t better than the old cell phones in the features that are important to me. Now it’s 2015 and I’m in the same situation. I would buy a new cell phone if there was one that was better.

So – you might ask – what am I being picky about? The most important feature of a cell phone to me is actually making phone calls. So I’ve been sticking to Verizon because they have had the best connectivity of all the carriers. As a one person business I need to be able to not only make and receive calls but turn my phone into a hot spot so I can get online with my laptop when I need to.

Salon: What if Rand Paul were Muslim? The white, privileged assumptions behind his Patriot Act “principles”.

I spent three years as a double-agent for the FBI working undercover to counter Russian military intelligence collection efforts in New York City. My job was to convince the Russians that I was an authentic spy, willing to betray his country for cold hard cash. I believe they were willing to recruit me, in part, because I’m a first-generation American and the son of a Pakistan-born father. It was imagined that I had conflicting allegiances – a perception I played to. However, over time this assumption that my heritage makes me more prone to sell out my country has come to bother me immensely. Granted, I used the Russians’ own biases against them, but isn’t there a better way to determine loyalty than the color of my skin or my parent’s birthplace?

In fact, there is — the bulk data approach used by the National Security Agency.

Rand Paul and Ron Widen managed to stop the renewal of the so called “Patriot Act” yesterday blocking it’s renewal and kicking Obama in the nuts. Not optimistic it will stay that way or that any data collection will actually stop. I think Obama will keep doing it regardless. After all – it was already illegal before the law expired. But Rand is moving up my list of possibilities as the only Republican I might have to give serious consideration to.

Kind of interesting for those who remember when the shredded the constitution after 9-11 that there were these anthrax letters targeting key senators and the press that helped get the Patriot Act passed in the first place. Did any of you find it interesting that anthrax was back in the news (pentagon ships live anthrax by Fedex) right before another key vote?

I remember at the time writing letters to the editor that if the government ever got these powers they would never let go of them. And I was right.

FLASHBACK: It was 1998. The Republicans were trying to impeach Clinton because he lied about having sex with Monica Lewinski. Newt Gingrich was the squeaker of the house. Republicans were trying to show they were the party of sexual morality – but there was a problem. Newt was a cheater, so he had to step down. Then they brought in some guy named Livingston but within a few days Larry Flint of Hustler Magazine exposed that Livingston fathered a child out of wedlock. Then came a series of Republican sex scandals being exposed. I was surprised Republicans were so sexually active.

Finally Dennis Hastert became the new Speaker of the House. His sole qualification was that he had no sex scandals. And now he’s being pursued for paying bribe money to keep quiet a homosexual relationship with a male student from where he was a coach. This is too funny! I wish I could have been there the moment Bill Clinton found out.

I think the real reason Republicans are against gay marriage is because under their religion they would have to get gay married to the men they are sleeping with. This is the best Republican sex scandal since wide stance Larry Craig tried to pick up a man for sex in an airport restroom.

Party on Republicans! Party on!

NEW: Hastert had gay sex with a CHILD!

Clinton – “I have no comment.” <snicker> (I made that up.)

As you know I’m an Elon worshiper so it is very disappointing to me that I have to write this review. But after renting a Tesla Model S for a day I have decided I’m definitely not buying it.

The verdict, disappointed, disheartened, disillusioned, depressed.
