Apple Files Suit on Leaked Product Info — How does this even work??
Apple Computer Inc. filed suit Dec. 13 in the Superior Court of Santa Clara County, California, alleging that an unknown person has released confidential information pertaining to an upcoming Apple product.
“An unidentified individual, acting alone or in concert with others, has recently misappropriated and disseminated through Web sites confidential information about an unreleased Apple product,” Apple said in the lawsuit, some documents of which the company has requested be sealed.
From a C-net article:
Apple last week was granted the right to subpoena Powerpage.org, Apple Insider and Think Secret, forcing the sites to turn over all documents related to an unreleased product code named “Asteroid” and “Q97.”
They can’t sue the leaker(s) – directly – but they can use court-issued subpoenas to get info from the sites that published the leaks.
In a way, it is great publicity for these sites – since it proves they have/had better contacts inside Apple than the other “rumor” sites.
