  1. Dallas says:

From this representative sample set, it appears the Democrat/Liberal/Commies are unpatriotic.

    • righteous indignation says:

You can’t count? Republicans hold congress so it would seem they must have had a majority vote. Sadly this is one of those sell outs which extend over all party lines.

      • Dallas says:

Well I counted 19 out of the 23 to be Democrats. I also counted it twice.

        What did you get ?

        • noname says:

Dallas, seems your definition of patriotic is embracing our National Security State and not standing up for American rights, “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” or not being a country of citizens with rights like:

          • Freedom of Religion, Speech, Press, Assembly, Petition (DOJ’s Harassment and prosecution of the press , AP Investigation….)
          • Citizens’ rights to the ownership and use of their property without intrusion by the government (bogus Eminent domain)
          • Search and Seizure (Driving With Money is a Crime and is automatically subject to confiscation)
          • Grand Jury, Double Jeopardy, Self-Incrimination, Due Process (Americans can be forced to decrypt their laptops)
          • Government Prosecutions – Jury Trial, Right to Confront and to Counsel (Guantanamo Bay indefinite detention camp)
          • Excess Bail or Fines, Cruel and Unusual Punishment (Torture, Torture, Torture)

      • Bill on a Hill says:

        Try counting AGAIN!

There are 100 SENATORS! (2 for each State and elected for 6 year terms) who were voting for the “Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act” a.k.a. “FISA.” There are 47 Republicans and 53 Democrats/Other who make up the SENATE. The Vice President of the U.S.A., Joe Biden is the current head of the Senate but has no voting powers EXCEPT when there is a need to resolve any ties (which Al Gore did when he voted to tax Social Security benefits). The current ranking member of the Senate (2nd in line, if you prefer) is Patrick Leahy (D-VT). That means the Democrats have control AND the MAJORITY of the SENATE.

So if 23 SENATORS voted “no” that’s about TWENTY -THREE PERCENT! Or more roughly, that’s nearly a QUARTER of the SENATE!

Now, on the OTHER side of “CONGRESS” is the HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES which is made up of 395 members who are each elected to 2-year terms and where each State has more or less members proportional to each state’s population. The HOUSE currently has a slight majority of Republicans and so the head of the House of Representatives is the top Republican – John Boehner (R-OH).

So when you say “Congress” you’re really talking about all 495 members – BOTH Senators AND House members. And to say that CONGRESS is controlled by Republican’s is NOT entirely correct.

… Try watching PBS a little more often instead of the other brain dead crap on NBC, CBS, ABC and Fox.

  2. MikeN says:

Murkowski? What’s she doing on that list? You sure it’s not Mikulski?

  3. dusanmal says:

    Moran voted “Yes”.

  4. spsffan says:

Oddly, the stupider of my two senators, Beanbrain Boxer, abstained.

Fascist Feinstein, of course votes yes. She was probably a sponsor.

  5. bobbo, in Repose says:

The OP is misleading as this program does not listen in on the conversations (that comes later).

This issue is more like being monitored by cameras in public.

Its in the ballpark, but running in the wrong direction.

Meanwhile……. all the other issues go unaddressed as the freedoms/liberties/rights we actually use daily are being unfunded and done away with. Good thing drug legalization is coming. Make you wonder why the gubment doesn’t sponsor memory lapse drug use more than they do?

    Silly Hoomans.

    • noname says:

How do you know they aren’t actively listening?

You only know what they tell you? And with that, how do you even know what they have told you is the truth?

Does our government have a track record of telling its citizens the truth? Does it allow the press to obtain truth of itself!

If this country is designed to only run correctly with informed citizenry, how can it function if “citizens” can’t cast an informed vote?

  6. Richard says:

I’m pretty sure there is no detectable clicking anymore.

  7. bobbo, in Repose says:

Nice little newbit on tv from Michael Isikoff regarding China gaining access to Obama’s campaign internal emails which got Obama “spooked” regarding cyber security.

There very well could be a “real” cyber security/defense behind this accessing all phone records/emails.

How else would one defend against cyber attacks?

Yes, pro’s and con’s to all we do.

  8. McCullough says:

It shouldn’t take “courage” to do the right thing. But my hats off to those who voted against this bullshit.

    • Dallas says:

It must sting when your Teapub party is clearly missing in action on this issue.

      • McCullough says:

Since I’m more of a Libertarian, it doesn’t faze me at all.

I would think, however, that it might bother an Obama bootlicker.

  9. Sam says:

Data is harmless until it’s “accidently” leaked for political gains.

Like the game “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon”, anything beyond six separations is a coincidence.

But, two or three degrees of separation between political candidate “x” and escort service “y” is paydirt for those who have access to the data.

  10. B. Dog says:

Well, Al Franken did the right thing.

  11. Admfubar says:

i take these you voted no on the bill are holding out for more campaign contributions…

  12. John E. Quantum says:

The NSA is reading these blog comments at this very moment.

Next thing the government will say is that it’s all to detect child pr0n. (And since the’ve already got all the data, maybe they should).

    • john dubois says:

That is the next logical step. And I’m sure it will come somewhere down the line. But then what is to stop them from planting child porn in – say Julian Assanges computer? Or other people deemed dangerous to the state. Or other people deemed a nuisance. Or maybe your next opponent for a political office. The possibilities are endless. I’m know we are supposed to have safety mechanisms in place to prevent that. Court orders etc. but we have to take their word for it, don’t we? There is no transparacy. Imagine Nixon having tools like this. I’m sure Nixon hasn’t been the only one. He just got caught.

  13. So What? says:

Let’s see if the NSA listens in real time. Bomb, white house, Obama, congress, nuclear, today.

Hang on a sec somebody’s at the door, be right back.

    • NSA says:

Ah, you’ve been flagged already. We’re just seeing what else you have to say and especially what you purchase.

    • Tim says:

Ingredients, mix it, cook it, timer, cake, deliver the package to grandma, symtex, bush sux, pot, spam.

carnivore, magic lamp, ted danson, spitoon bombs, finger-fucking Feinstein.

      • Mr Diesel says:

It is Semtex. Virtually no exports of it anymore.

Astrolite seems cool though. Gunpowder Treason and Plot.

November 5th. Guy Fawkes. Bomb, bomb. bomb. Butt hurt NSA.

  14. deowll says:

Yep, every bleep from TN voted for it.

  15. Bill on a Hill says:

I’m glad to see ONE of my Senators voted against it. Too bad the other is a clueless moron – he’s so stupid that he even voted for SOPA/PIPA without ever reading it. And yet, both Senators are in the SAME party! (Neither of them are Republicans.)
