We all owe a vote of thanks to Niki Johnson for her talented and dedicated work. She calls this “Eggs Benedict”. Constructed entirely of condoms.

  1. Disgusted says:

What a fifthy news article to post. What are your motives?

You sir are a common lowlife. Would you have to guts to post something similar against the Muslin faith?

    Coward.

    • MikeN says:

Why is this against the Catholic faith? I think they are doing a good job promoting proper condom use in line with Catholic teaching.

    • MikeN says:

Besides this site’s editors had no problem running depictions of Mohammed when the Danish cartoon riots broke.

      Oh wait, no they didn’t.

  2. noname says:

What’s new, some artist desperate trying to gain titillating notoriety by being uselessly and unnecessarily obnoxious.

Niki Johnson is quoted saying “Someone said that if I’d made a portrait of Muhammad, I’d have been stoned or something. I just thought, but the great thing about this country is that we have a freedom of expression and we can stand up for what we believe in.”

Yes, we do have freedom of expression and it works both ways. In no way are her motives pure as her anti-Aids rhetoric & claims.

Yes, Niki Johnson is essentially an admitted coward for not making a portrait of Muhammad out of fear from negative reactions it would have generated.

I am not a Catholic but this work is uselessly titillating, unnecessarily obnoxious and doesn’t promote sexual health.

  3. Mextli says:

Apparently I need a “Man of Science” or an intellectual to explain it to me. It just appears to be shock “art” without any value.

    • noname says:

      That’s all it is.

Elites will spend tons of words to convince us mere mortals it’s supposed extreme intrinsic value.

    • bobbo, are we Men of Science, or Devo says:

Anyone “shocked” by this is………… what?

The ballpark is “too easily shocked” but the bullseye has other added components going to how one remains too easily shocked in our modern society.

I would have said boring and unimaginative.

      Not art====but arts and crafts.

      Know what I mean?

      • bobbo, are we Men of Science, or Devo says:

Crap!======and who in this sweet world cares what a muslim thinks?

        This is America.

        Land of the Free.

You know—where we can all get upset over arts and crafts.

You should see what she did with Popsicle sticks.

        Oh, the Horror!

        • MikeN says:

There are stores in America that sell good certified as compliant with sharia law, primarily that they are produced by Muslims.

  4. Foxie Nutball says:

Ah so – cowards, trying to preserve a pretense of value to their conformity by claiming “conservatism”.

Conserving nothing but obedience to spooky leftovers, historic dross.

  5. jbenson2 says:

I wonder if Niki Johnson will have the artistic backbone to create an image of Muhammad using beheaded skulls.

    • Ramsey says:

How does one go about beheading a skull?

    • deowll says:

They found 54 bodies and I think 52 beheaded viking skulls next to them in England not so long ago. A few skulls most likely ended up on stakes. It appears the Saxons used swords but any ax, cleaver, etc., could most likely get the job done.

      • Ramsey says:

The point is: skulls aren’t beheaded, bodies are. Skulls would best be denoted as disembodied. Beheading is to remove the head… How could you remove the head of a skull? I was pointing out poor word usage, I thought that was the whole point of this blog’s comment system…

  6. Uncle Patso says:

    Disgusted asks

“… Would you have to guts to post something similar against the Muslin faith? …”

Many Muslin experts are, and have been for several years, quite upset about rampant thread count fraud:

    http://newyorker.com/talk/2008/01/28/080128ta_talk_collins

    = = = = = = = = = = = =

Why are even (or especially) non-Catholics so superstitiously afraid of the Pope? He’s only a man.

  7. sargasso_c says:

    Banal.

  8. jarofurine says:

So the ‘artist’ got 6000 rubbers from a health group in exchange
for a donation. I wonder how many STD transmissions would
have been prevent among the poor if they were used for
    the intended purpose.

  9. deowll says:

This posting like all forms of free speech serves a purpose. It allows everyone to look very hard at the character of the person that created the ‘art’ and very hard at the character of the person that posted it and decide if they like what they see or not.

Personally I was negatively impressed. In my opinion you have to be one sick puppy to do something like this to anyone or want to have anything to do with it. If you liked it you can of course ask for more of the same.

    • bobbo, mindless violence is a challenge to society says:

do-ill===its funnee you miss the point of art completely.

The point of art is not the artist but the art itself. THAT IS WHY, when you look at the Condom Pope, all I see is Arts and Crafts. The Pope is against the use of Condoms, but I don’t see that “idea” communicated by this craft work.

But way to fixate on a completely irrelevant point. I see that in your political commentary very uniformly.

How do you get it wrong so constantly?

  10. Dallas says:

Terrific art and why funding for the NEA is essential for culture and discussion. Not keen on the lazy eye but pretty good overall .
