A product of computer driven labelling. Give them credit at least for the program telling a truth…
And that’s just for the jar! How much more for the asparagus inside?
Hey dumb dumb… You can buy it cheaper elsewhere.
No thanks, I’ll buy it elsewhere.
In these days of barcode labeling; having a display label is an accomplishment in of itself. Those people work sooo hard.
You always hear how challenged the merchants managers life is. Merchants can’t be bothered with managing their own inventory and instead let the vendors do it for them.
Can’t imagine how Grocery Stores managed to get it right in the days of Unions without Universal Product Code, laser scanners, RFID tags, cameras galore, computers up the wazoo in every size and form….
It’s like the next generation asking how the pyramids where built without today’s toys.
The “real” store motto in many places is:
Caveat Emptor: You can always buy better, but you can’t pay more!
Back in the day a guy at the Roseville, CA, farmer’s market sold tomatoes for “25 cents each or 3 for $1.00”. Hardly anyone noticed and paid the 3/$1.00 all day.
Sad but probably true. Try to get any sales clerk to make change without an electronic cash register and watch them go into an epileptic fit until you tell them.
My brothers and I had a friend who would sell fruits and vegetables at the local farmer’s market. He had lots of regular customers who would only buy from him because they swore they couldn’t find the quality that he sold in the local grocery store.
The sordid truth was he bought his produce from the Cash-N-Carry of the grocery warehouse my brothers work at. The customers were getting the exact same produce that was on the store shelves of the local Lowes Food, Ingles, and Galaxy grocery stores.
We live in a beautiful world.
P. T. Barnum & Abraham Lincoln have said:
“It is true that you may fool all of the people some of the time; you can even fool some of the people all of the time; but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.”
Where I live, there are real FARMS that have stands on their property. That’s where I buy.
Forget that “all” nonsense. Makes for a good quote but it’s a diversion.
All that’s required is to fool “enough” of the people “enough” of the time.
In a DEMOCRACY, “All that’s required is to fool “enough” of the people “enough” of the time.” is true enough!
Good catch!
Kind pricy for soggy asparagus. The jar may be the valuable part.
Walmart would be proud. Of course they’d charge $3.84.
I love these examples of accidental truth telling.
Hey JCD, what market was this in?
I can just imagine the inventory/sales report:
We dont seem to be moving any pickled asparagus. Oh well… So much for next month’s order.
The ordering system are all automated now. 🙂
Nothing’s going to change until some customer comes up and points this out to a manager (who presumably gives a fuck.)
I’m surprised a Teapub hasn’t pointed out this might be an Obamacare friendly business.
Eat up, buy American!
Every sell generates $1 to support Obamacare and pay for pedro continuing care and brain scans!
Math SUX!
Brought to you by the same folks who realize they lose a nickel on each item sold, but make up for it in sales volume.
Oh come on! You know your going to use more then $1.01 gas
going elsewhere.
Pickled asparagus = TROUBLE
Pickled asparagus is good if you like pickled stuff. It even makes your pee smell; same as cooked asparagus.
