Who needs elections when you have polls?
Ummmmm – the polls mean nothing. Its the election that counts?
How do such simple things get turned backwards?
Polls are money, going to somebody’s pocket. Meaningful to the campaigns, the parties, the news organizations and the pollsters. They mean nothing to us ordinary Joes and Janes, except that we eat this stuff up. Political potato chips; tasty, fun to eat, and absolutely no good for your health.
This poll isn’t particularly relevant since it doesn’t measure opinions in the same way we vote.
This one uses state-by-state polls, which matches up with the electoral college. Much more useful, IMO.

Sorry McCain was toast from day one. Republicans had gotten sick of big government Rhino’s, and just weren’t going to show up (as seen by the election congressional elections of 2006).
Things are a little different this time. Republicans are going to show up at the poles this time. No doubt about that. By and large they’ve seen what an Obama rule looks like, and aren’t going to sit idle this time.
The dems by the same token see the republicans as taking away their entitlements. Free money is a big motivator.
This election is going to be a fight between the producers and the takers. If Obama wins, the takers have control of the country, and were screwed. If Romney wins, the producers have a chance (a small one grant you) of saving the country before we drown in debt and go the way of every other out of control government in history.

One thing I want to see if after the election, to go back over today’s polls and see who was in the tank for which party.
In other words, which polls got it right and which got it dramatically wrong and for whom.

Polls are all over the map with bias and even down right corruption/paid for opinions. THAT is why your source for who WILL win the election has to be an expert on polls with an established track record. That guy (Silver?) who got 95% of the Congressional Districts correct and all but one State correct back in 2008 says it is Obama.
My expert beats whatever wishful thinking you have on your own or cherry picked from the bobble heads.

Who knew that a Romney victory would disprove global warming?
Though to be fair, climate scientists don’t engage in prediction. They just pretend to so as to scare people. For example Michael Mann deliberately titling his book Dire Predictions. He explains that a more accurate title wouldn’t help to scare people.

My only comeback would be that climate studies are highly variable but based on something more predictable: physics: whereas polling is highly variable and based on something less predictable: people.
But, a pleasure to read nonetheless.
Well I evaluate the claims of the poll analysts’ critics, and find some validity to their claims. I also evaluate the claims of global warming skeptics and find they are right and scientists are wrong. So if Obama wins, perhaps I SHOULD reevaluate my belief in skeptics over scientists. Based on my analysis of claims, I conclude the climate scientists as well as the poll analysts like Nate Silver, are using science to push a political cause, and bending the science towards that end.

I have been loyal to the Republican party for all 28 years that I have been a registered voter. The first time I ever voted was for Ronald Reagan in 1984. Casting that ballot was one of the best moments of my life, and I will surely never forget that day and that wonderful feeling as long as I live.
But I am sorry to say that I do not have that same feeling with the Republican candidates that we’ve been presented the past several years. I voted for Bush twice, but both times I did it very reluctantly, almost forcing myself to. My gut knew he was not the right person for the job, but my pride told me I had to vote Republican because that is what I have always done. I couldn’t admit to myself George Bush was not best candidate. I couldn’t get past the labels “Republican” and “Democrat.” It was more about “winning” for me than it was about choosing the best person to run my country.
I now see that my gut was right all along, and I will not make that same mistake again. I am voting for Barack Obama in this election, not because of his party affiliation, but because he is the best candidate for the job. I’ve seen this economy pick back up these past four years under the leadership of President Obama, and I am very pleased with the direction our country is headed. The losses my company suffered during the Bush administration nearly pushed us under, but we are now nearly back to where we were in the early 2000s.
The Bush administration not only disappointed me tremendously as a businessman, but also humiliated me as a Republican. He made us look plain stupid. He was not running the country the way a true Republican would, and he just ended up blowing our country’s budget and making our party look foolish. And what really scares me now is that our current Republican nominee seems to be even more naive than George Bush.
Mitt Romney has already embarrassed my party throughout the course of his campaign. The guy is completely out of touch with reality, and I’ve studied his budget plan inside and out and the math just doesn’t add up any way you work it. It’s impossible. He is doomed to throw us right back into another recession and I DO NOT want to give him the chance to go into office and run the economy through a meat grinder.
This man is NOT the same kind of Republican I voted for in 1984. He does not care about the American people. He cares only about himself. He perpetuates the sad stereotype that Republicans are selfish and greedy. A $55,000 elevator for your car!? Give me a break! The man has no character and no judgment whatsoever. He’s a power–hungry puppet that will say and do anything if there’s cash behind it. I don’t trust him as a person and I CERTAINLY do not trust him to run this country.
I miss the days when there were so many great Republican candidates that I had a hard time choosing which of them I wanted to vote for. Now the patch is so bad we have to choose the apple that is the “least rotten, but still pretty damn rotten.”
I will not vote for Mitt Romney just because he has the party affiliation of Republican. He is not a true Republican, as evidenced by his governorship of Massachusetts. And by the way, Massachusetts isn’t even voting for him! BECAUSE THEY HAD HIM AND THEY KNOW BETTER NOW.
I’m asking you to think about your values as a Republican and weigh them up against this candidate. A much better option would be the Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson, who has stayed true to his political stances from the beginning and has enough character to make decisions based on good judgment, not how much money is behind it.
The election is only a couple of days away. Don’t vote for the candidate who is going to make a fool out of you.
Ben I seriously doubt you are conservative or libertarian in any way. If you were, their is no way you could vote for Obama and live with yourself. Since he stands pretty much in direct opposition of everything a libertarian or a conservative would think.
If you are being truthful (which I doubt), then you remind me of the German in 1934 who supported Hitler because “things were getting better”, all the while, the government continued to take over more and more of daily life, and was reformed to take the form of the maniac on top.

Below are various tips from myself or others where noted:
Beware false stories of unprecedented lines at some precincts and desolate lines at other precincts. They may well all be true but voting patterns shift every election and getting too despondent or overjoyed based on random and possibly inaccurate anecdotes will make you crazy. Both sides have quite possibly the strongest ground games in election history so anything is possible on election day. Let it play out.
Ignore the “too close to call” game. If the media doesn’t have enough precincts reporting in a Republican state they will say the race is “too close to call.” If they don’t have enough precincts reporting in a Democrat state they will say the polls just closed so it’s too early to say anything. They do this EVERY election.
I put this on my Facebook page election night 4 years ago and have left it there. It’s as true today as it was then and is a good thing to remember no matter the outcome. “A prophet is the one who, when everyone else
