Let’s not forget about one of William Shatner’s other illustrious roles. I remember him best as “The Big Giant Head”!

I remember him more fondly as the commander of Moon Base, in the movie Airplane 2. When the script really over the top, parodied his Capt. Kirk role. Even the 2nd feature film. That was when he shut down the mission simulation, on Saavik, at the start of the movie. In Airplane 2 he told everyone to shut it down and go home, when he thought Striker was a goner. And the moon command set went dark. So many good satirical moments in that movie. But I never like “3rd Rock”, so I didn’t see his ratings boosting appearance on that one. And I didn’t care for “T.J. Hooker, or “Barbary Coast” either. I’m hard to please.

Like most professionals, Shatner doesn’t appreciate SEE, “spectator espoused expertize”. That is people who don’t bring anything to the table but think when something looks easy it is easy and they can tell you how to do it better. Given Hollywood’s cultural influence, American false self-confidence and can-do attitude, American’s are particularly prone to this.
I’ve worked with too many brown nosed managers who think this way.
Shatner handled this exactly as he should of, managing the manager!
