I say that when a TV reporter shoves a mic into your face and asks your your comment, ask the reporter if they get paid to do this. Then ask why you don’t get paid for this commentary. Don’t work for free!

Excellent post.
i dunno, it all sounds very elitist to me…
I’m curious what your comment means to tell us. Could you say more?
Straight forward: the clip is from a journalist telling us that only journalists can tell us the truth. I too would call that elitist.
but its also the truth. Nothing wrong with being/having elitists until like the complaint here they do not perform their function.
Journalism is now about making money as it’s primary motivator. Fox News and talk radio found a market and is very good at providing predictable entertainment. Tech journalism is just as bad since it’s mainly an advertising channel for tech companies.
The internet is changing that. Individuals with a voice can create a brand and make money. Obviously you’ll get more actual journalism from TWiT than from Forbes/WSJ/NYT/CNET combined.
Good to see sme Adam Curtis stuff here. Some really good articles on his blog – the most recent is an excellent piece on Ghaddafi.
Now how can we tell whom to trust? I think that it is high anxiety that is ruling so much of the worlds people and our elected leaders are incapable or unwilling to do anything about it.
YES! Finally! John mentioned Adam Curtis while back in the show.
His stuff are more meditations about the subject. Total immersions.
These videos, as good as they are, misses one fundamentally important point.
How did we go from Woodward and Bernstein at the Post uncovering government corruption to the Post covering up government corruption?
When and why did news go from investigating the government to becoming shills for the government?
Follow the money.
Uh, he misses the distraction of the week aspect, as well as the Orwellian stir up hate aspect. Matt Taibi touches on some of this:

all of curtis’ stuff is pretty thought provoking. the first
time i watched some of his other material regarding the
self, propaganda, and rise of the machines… it sent some
ripples through my brain. to fully comprehend the nature
of the human mind is an impossible task, but interesting
to think about. i haven’t seen this piece yet though, so
thanks for the post… and how about them giants eh?
