Authorities are investigating how a farmer in the state of Oregon was devoured by his pigs.
Terry Vance Garner, 69, went to feed his animals last Wednesday on his farm by the coast, but never returned.
His dentures and pieces of his body were found by a family member in the pig enclosure, but the rest of his remains had been consumed.
The Coos County district attorney’s office said that one of the animals had previously bitten Garner.
The animals are estimated by the authorities to each weigh about 700lb.
Investigators say it is possible that the hogs knocked Garner over before killing and eating him.
But they have not ruled out the possibility that the farmer could have collapsed from a medical emergency, such as a heart attack.
A pathologist was unable to determine the cause of Garner’s death and his remains have been sent to the University of Oregon to be analysed by a forensic anthropologist…
Coos County District Attorney Paul Frasier told the local newspaper: “For all we know, it was a horrific accident, but it’s so doggone weird that we have to look at all possibilities.”
Mr Frasier added that he had not intended to release details about the case, but changed his mind after word spread about the incident.

Pigs are dirty disgusting animals which have nearly the same internal organ structure as humans. And just like humans, pigs are also only concerned about themselves and what they can consume. Maybe that might shed a little light on why is (or was) an insult to be called a “pig”.
So to be eaten by a pig should be no surprise. After all, humans eat pigs and occasionally even other humans. Humans certainly will kill anything with a pulse. So you might say for a human to be referred to as being “inhuman” could be considered a compliment. But that’s probably a compliment only reserved by pigs!

I do remember a story from WWII era where a farmer in France or Italy killed some Germans, fed the bodies to his pigs, and later slaughtered and ate the pork.

A pig farm has always been great disposal facilities for old, useless or they just too big for their britches mafiosi.
The only mystery here is who, uh, what, did they feed the pigs before they ended up at “Tony’s Route 9 Salumeria.”

Growing up in a farming community while hog prices were high (meaning lots of farmers had pigs); this happened twice in just the immediate area over a 12 year period that I know of (I left the farm at age 18).
Farmer average ages have been steadily rising over the past 30 years. Farmers die all the time during work (natural and accidental) and if a heard of pigs is around they will eat the body. So will dogs, chickens, cats and the wild animals in the area.
For those who find this hard to believe please pull your head from our arse and realize that your food doesn’t grow in a wrapper from your grocery store.

I just wish they would eliminate the estate tax so farmers wouldn’t have to sell their farms to corporations just to pay the tax in a hurry.

Hogs eating people isn’t uncommon. After the battle of Shiloh the locals wouldn’t eat the hogs that had been running free in the woods for a couple of years. I’d assume the same issue existed at other large battlefields.
Working with livestock is not as safe as some urban animal lovers would have you think. Many a farmer has met this fate.
I wonder how many pounds of bacon, pork chops and ham the farmer consumed in his lifetime.

Being totally pig ignorant on this subject, seems to me that pigs will attack people who are hunting them or trying to tie them down? And some of those people could bleed to death. And there is general agreement that pigs/hogs/boars/of great size will eat anything dead including humans. Seems to me, all you have to do is connect the dots?
The fact that pigs don’t jump out of trees and clamp onto your jugular doesn’t mean on rare occasion they might not smell diseased tissue and take someone down as close enough?

My knowledge about the dangers of pigs soley comes from that scene where Dorothy falls in the pig pen and is rescued by her uncles.
They seems very, very alarmed for her. So, even as a kid, I never fully bought that Charlette’s Web propoanda.

I bet he knew his pigs. I’ll bet he died of natural causes and naturally got eaten. Pigs make more sense than we do.
It’s my understanding hunters pay good money to hunt Razorbacks on those enclosed hunting farms. The thrill being they are one of the few game animals (unlike deer) that will charge and gore you if you don’t shoot them first.
I don’t know how related a domesticated pig is to a Razorback but there just may be a little mean streak left in them.

There’s really not a lot of difference between a wild boar and an angry pig. Specially when its crushing you into pink slime under its trotters.
