    Ha.
As a classical music afficianado, and never having heard your name pronounced until like 10 years ago or so, for decades every time I saw your name in print or spoke to someone about an article authored by you, I would always pronounce “Dvorak” as Dvořák the Czech way, “DVOR-zhahk “.

You don’t look like this guy:

    • Yes it is pronounced that ay ONLY if you use the two chars you seeover the r and the a: řá without the chars it is Dee– voor–ack.
Nobody in the USA except a phony would pronounce it “DVOR-zhahk…” this was further complicated by the actress Ann Dvorak who insisted the pronunciation was vor-zhahk without the D.

Personally I do not care how people pronounce it. But I have enough trouble getting people to spell it right (always adding anE to the name). I cannot imagine how miserable it would be pronouncing the name “DVOR-zhahk” I’d be there all day.

      Devorshock?

  2. orchidcup says:

That Dvorak photo must be from the 1980’s.

  3. Dallas says:

Some of your rant is classical

Nice to see you on Cranky Geeks last Sunday! Finally a show with some brains and substance. Leo was either pissed or envious.

You and Jolie O’Dell make a good couple/partners. She doesn’t shit from anyone.

Nice to see Andrew and Robert… Leo limits his guests to younger weirdos:-(

      Blegh, Uglie O’troll
Trying to act all cutesy like a twelve year old. Ever noticed she talks atleast an octave lower after an hour :/
Only thing that is funny about her is that she always wrong.

      • dave m brewer says:

        Leo always thinks she right…

TWIT is going down hill. For awhile the shows seem to go on the air on time. Now the shows are at least 30-45 minutes late (expect TIT). Leo doesn’t realize that people tune in from work and can’t wait 30-45 minutes for a show to start while they grab ass. Yesterday I tuned in for the Enterprise show from work (Was getting paid to watch the show.). Had to sit and watch Sarah bat her eyelids to the chat room for more than 30 minutes. Gave up and tuned out.

Tom has backed off and I don’t see him lasting there much longer. He’s only there when he is being paid too. Some of the people there has stepped into doing things that he should be doing. Why not, they are paid less. Tom at this point is just a paid personality… thats all.

Rest of the people there are dumb-asses.

By the way, atleast is a hyphenated word or not.

        • Jeroen says:

at and least are two seperate words.
          Sorry for the inconvenience 🙂
English is just one of the six languages I speak, Dutch is my first language. I like to check your Frisian spelling.

      • Johan says:

I like Jolie. She’s a bit skeptical about things, and that’s highly needed on Twit.

I just wish Dvorak was on more, and guys like Ryan Block would appear less frequently.

    It’s a reverse Dvorak keyboard

  7. Glenn E. says:

At least the name is among great company. A classical composer, and one of the few guys who had the balls to reinvent the english typewriter keyboard layout, Dr. August Dvorak (1936). The Dvorak Simplified Keyboard (DSK).

The “QWERTY” layout isn’t even named after the jerk who stuck us with it, Christopher Latham Sholes (1867). Choosing the arrangement in order to slow typists down, so the keys wouldn’t jam up.

And in case anyone is interested, here’s a ton of keyboard layouts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colemak

    • msbpodcast says:

As admirable as Mr Sholes invention was at insuring that a typists nimble fingeredness didn’t exceed the mechanical properties of a typewriter, he didn’t slow it down enough to the discourage the weak minded* from posting on blogs or Huffington Post.

*) I’m including people(?) who repeatedly make irritating malapropisms. (Why dont you look up what the dictionary says a word means? Because it doesn’t mean what you think it does.)

      • Jeroen says:

Also it made it easy for the salesperson to demonstrate how fast he could type ‘typewriter’, all the letters are in the top row.

Ol’ Dvorak the composer has been swallowed up by history.  Came along at the end of the Romantic era.  Was a protégé of Brahms in the early days.  Was the greatest orchestrator there ever was until Ravel came along.  Was easy & fun for him.  Composers still study & admire his technique.  Could drink you under the table.  Visited NYC & conducted NY Philharmonic.  They loved him.

    • ± says:

Dr. Haas? Karl? Is that you?

      • t0llyb0ng says:

I’ll be a sport & admit that I remember Karl Haas & his radio shows.  So I just googled him.  Had never seen a picture of him & did not know he’s been gone since 2005.  Thanks for that.

  11. dittmv says:

This is why John cannot be verified on Twitter.

  12. Uncle Patso says:

Haas: I miss his cheerful “Hello everyone” and the way he always pronounced “organ” with three syllables.

JCD: For want of a caron, or háček, a “zzhh” was lost.

    Interesting factoid:
Czech (Dvořák): status name for a rich farmer, one who owned a manor house

Do you own a manor house, John?

  13. The Monster's Lawyer says:

Kirill Pokovsky?? They’ve got to be kidding. He’s nothing more than a lip-synching front man for the band. He couldn’t sing himself out of a paper bag.

Now, that Dvorak fellow can carry a tune. What you say John? Can you belt us out one?

  14. Alfie says:

John should start composing right away, just to confuse people.
He’s the next William Shatner, I tell you.
