“Stand By Your Man… bum, bum, bum…”
Good overall first night, laid out a vision for a compassionate future for America with a very human and at times emotional moments.
Pretty much the same speeches
Seriously? Try actually listening.
With Obama’s environmentalist war on the middle class, such a car as he drove would be unaffordable.
Whaaat theee heeell r u taking about.
Obama’s policies support higher gas prices, and reducing the amount of automobile driving in general. Higher fuel efficiency requirements have been passed, making cars thousands of dollars more expensive, and that’s a low estimate. Then we saw cash for clunkers as a preemptive way of driving up prices in the used car market as well, as that would be the refuge of people who can’t afford the higher car prices. That effect can already be seen. Michelle talks in the speech of the crappy car Obama drove. That would not be possible in Obama’s America.
Are you just stupid, or are you trying to make a point?
Evolouie, if your replying to NewformatSux, your stupid. He’s right and there’s a Reply link on his post.
I’m just posting the speeches. Nothing more.
Good idea, except Dvorak never reads the replies. I listen to all of the conservative radio and Jerry Doyle has it just right. He hates them all, except for Ron Paul, besides that last point he has it right. This Country is broken and broke at the Federal level and most States.
Sorry, I don’t vote for the First Broad so it’s uninteresting.
So you think that a wife has absolutely no influence on their husband. You must be single.
Or that the initiatives and causes spearheaded by First Ladies have no effect on the public. Riiight…
Only the gullible. I could care less what programs the First Ladies do for show.
I’m somewhat interested in hearing someone far left explain why the Democratic Convention isn’t going to be a train wreck.
[I’ve watched none of either convention, btw. Although I watched the Eastwood thing on YouTube. I’m not really sure what the point of conventions are other than scripted puppet shows.]
I say this because:
1. The theme is “We make it possible”. Which I feel is insulting.
2. The “The Government Is The Only Thing We All Belong To…” … really? What would Thomas Jefferson or Ben Franklin have to say about that?
That is almost like the government as “the great provider” or some sort of artificial “god”. Am I the only one that finds that disturbing? Isn’t that 1984ish with us all belonging to “Big Brother”?
On a larger note … who did the planning for the Democratic Convention that the potential offensiveness of the above wasn’t identified?
This seems incompetent or tone-deaf to me.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=fZgQhnNRSuw
I usually cringe at YouTube videos someone posts in a link.
But that’s interesting.
Sometime around the middle of 2009, I lost interest in listening to Obama. Now I still liked him at that time.
But the speeches sounded the same every time.
I find your YouTube video a bit disturbing and this is a significant part of the reason it is my preference that he not be re-elected.
All smoke and no fire. Same as it was same as it shall be.
These are the guys who put up Greek columns, artificial smoke, and a plane for Obama made to look like Air Force One before he was President. This time around they built a Mt Rushmore out of sand featuring the President, so hubris is not a term they are going to heed.
Regarding we make it possible and we belong to the government, this is a good thing. Politicians shouldn’t lie about their agenda. They should be straightforward about it, and let the voters decide. Romney was running a weak stewardship based campaign until Obama said ‘You didn’t build that”, and this pushed Romney to the right and defending capitalism. Now the Obama campaign has seen the GOP Convention focused on the point, and is pushing back. I think they should have a strategy of Barack Obama Being Barack Obama. Call it Operation BOBBO.
+1 for fitting Bobbo’s in there somehow.
The convention is not for your benefit. It’s for those that already “understand” what’s really going on and forgot that if they don’t vote it could all go away.
BTW:
1. whether it’s a company or a church or a community or a country, strength comes in numbers. These groups make things possible that an individual can not which is why we need both individually and a government.
2. we may belong to many different groups but if your an American we have the government in common.
3. Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin both understood how important a government for the people and by the people was which is why they helped to write the Constitution of the US. If we can stop the Republicans from dismantling or government and installing a country run by companies (Fascism) then TJ and BF wont be turning in their graves.
The only one here that is tone deaf is you.
Can anyone think of any other “job” in the world where the candidate brings in/up his wife? Only politicians do this, evidently with the approval of all involved.
I remember only one time in my life a candidate for a job brought in his wife at the first interview after the personnel department cleared him. End of consideration.
But, I guess its all custom? Same with statements of faith. Illegal interview subject matter.
We make them dance. No wonder we get clowns.
Lawyers get their wives “vetted” before becoming a partner in the firm. (but does the reverse happen for female lawyers?)
Exclusive country clubs do the same thing, just to make sure they’re all “our kind of people”.
It’s a 1%er and above thing.
Why am I thinking: “Stepford?”
“Can anyone think of any other “job” in the world where the candidate brings in/up his wife?”
It is to humanize them and to try to establish a personal connection. Like the family photos.
Complete with the family dog on the roof of the car or Obama eating someone’s puppy in Indonesia 😉
Actually, I believe it’s the media that makes them dance, so they can put on the circus they call news.
look at the hair styles…
Michele Obama was amazing, inspirational and hit the mark with the middle class, women and America!
Ann Romney’s story of using her ironing board as a dinner table made me throw up a little.
Both speeches are already being forgotten.
Keep focused on what’s really at stake:
DEMs – We’ll help everyone, no questions asked. Just let government grow and control the distribution of all your money as we see fit.
REPs – We’ll help the needy, but otherwise get off your ass and grow the country, not government.
“REPs – We’ll help the needy, but otherwise get off your ass and grow the country, not government.”
I don’t believe Romney thinks in that simplistic manner.
The Republicans on a whole, yes.
Keep in mind Romney’s father was essentially the liberal governor of Michigan and that he was governor of Massachusetts.
Even George W. Bush didn’t think in that manner.
I didn’t hear that from either party. I hear:
DEM’s – The middle class is disappearing and the #1 issue facing the country. Solution: Grow the middle class from the bottom up and from the center. Invest in America
REP’s – Gay marriage and an uncontrolled Vagina is America’s greatest threat. Solution: Rich people know better and they have the jobs. Invest in rich people.
Do people realize that the US taxpayers have put out $100 million to pay for these two conventions?
For independent voters and small-party voters, there is zero benefit.
Here is what is important.
“Twitter reported more than 28,000 tweets per minute during Obama’s prime time speech, nearly double that of Republican candidate Mitt Romney’s.
And many of them focused on what she had on.”

Looks like the women and gay vote is guaranteed.
My wife strokes my ego, defends my stupidity, reminds me of appointments, organizes the house and tolerates my friends.
Other than that, she is completely useless except for sex.
I don’t know why wives would be important in this dog and pony show we call politics.
I remember when women did not wear pants, did not speak in church or in public, did not contradict their husbands, and conformed to their proper Biblical role in society.
Those damn Marxist Godless Satan-worshipping liberals gave women the right to vote and now we are paying for it.
I hope that is satire, if not get help.
Poor US of A! Poor world!
WTF!!!!!!
The lame media has noted that Dead Fish brought over 50 Chicago cops to the convention and is going to shift over to full time fund raising which makes some happy but how about the people living in the murder capital of the nation where a teacher strike is about to start?
I watched video of lame media pundits asking straight questions about the removal of certain statements about Israel which have been removed from the party platform apparently at Obama’s request as reported to and by them.
The word God is not in the Democrat platform as an apparent bow to anti-theists.
Some have pretty much noted the same economic issues that the Repubs have been preaching on and I just watched a video of one getting ejected by security after being threatened with arrest for trying to talk to a fat cat fund raiser tied to Solyndra getting ejected by hotel security.
It would appear that for some their mad love affair with Obama is wearing a little thin.
George HW Bush got elected and look at what he was saddled with.
Both nominees from both parties obviously have great marriages. That’s a good thing.
It sounds like some of you guys should spend a little time with your wives.
The media should play back to back Bill Clinton’s speech and Juanita Broaddrick’s interview with NBC.
I don’t know.
I don’t think either of them were objective or unbiased.
But I’m tired of voting for the lesser of two evils.
I’m writing in Satan.
Probably the only country in the world where the wife gets to speak. You can imagine in Berlusconi’s wife had time on the podium? Or Putin’s.
So the thread finishes with two excellent comments. Shame these issues only last 24 hours.
“Shame these issues only last 24 hours.”
Slick Willy Clinton’s still speaking at the DNC. You ain’t seen nothin’ yet!
