Totally appropriate use of work place humor. I’ll bet the guy is fun to work with and the work environment is better than most…all to the point of making its work product better than the competition.

Humor is always to be appreciated. No “a front” to anyone.

  2. The Monster's Lawyer says:

Not to “cloud” the issue and “rain” on your parade. That is, I don’t mean to “pressure” you into any particular “precipitous” viewpoint. But this wise-n-hiemer has no business “snowing” us with his “lightning” wit. I can imagine that he heard “thundering” applause from the wide audience of “NHC” readers as he wrote this. We readers of the “NHC” rely on no-holds barred, in your face, factual reporting of hurricane shinanigans. If his humor is a “barometric” indication of the seriousness he takes his job then he needs to be re-assigned. You would think in the “inclement” job market he would refrain.

I made no forecast of this storm of word play. Man made, you warmed up to the topic and cirrusly dispatched the subject with great perspicacity.

      Well done.

    • Hey says:

      “…he would refrain.”

Did you mean to say ref-“rain”?

These are automagically generated by software (in Fortran.)

Some programmer has insured himself a place in eternity. (Neither Mittenz nor Yo’Mama is going to spend any money for the weather service to upgrade its software. )

For all we know this very line of text will reappear for every hurricane named Kirk (the name won’t be retired until and unless the storm get to Katrina disaster proportions.)

Wonder if they will ever use Spock or McCoy for named storms?

By golly, Jim, I’m beginning to think I can cure a rainy day!

    Romoney the Romulan worries me.

I hope we survive the snow job.

These are not automatically generated. They are generated by real people, and they are very well known (in certain circles) for their use of humor in the forecasts, especially for storms that have overstayed their welcome and continue to dwindle in the North Atlantic, or for storms that pose no real threat to life.

  8. Glenn E. says:

Is there a hurricane Pike on this year’s list? Because I can’t think of many ST capt. names before that one. McCoy would precede it. But he was never a ST captain. It will have to get pretty far up the storm name list for “Spock” to Live Long and Prosper.
