There is a huge teleprompter in the back of the room for the speakers at these conventions. You can see how scripted this is. BUT this takes the cake.

I can’t look at the video right now, but what about an event being scripted surprises you when everything is scripted.
Gee Whiz–the ocean is wet, the kitchen is hot, scripted events tell the participants what to say.
It is what it is.
The really surprising thing is that the responsible powers that be script in a whole pot full of easy to tell lies.
Lies I tells ya!!!
RICH = CRIMINAL, including the pols in their pockets.
Darn–I’ve heard criticism of past conventions, not this one so far, that people have departed from their scripts. Thats why conventions, which have become window dressing only anyway, are being trimmed down to one day affairs.
In the future–all appearances will be on video tape so that the smallest departure from script will be safeguarded.
After that—a press release from Corp HQ will do.
You describe a frightening future.
But I am not sure I disagree…
Almost sounds like you coming clean about how global warming is a man-made scripted crisis. 🙂
BWHAHAHAHA====QUICK show me the telepromter. Craig Romney can’t get thru his speech he is so broken up about his great grandfathers struggels to make it in America==Mexico, or wherever they hung their underwear.
Was the inability to continue being choked up right up there on the teleprompter?- – – – WAS IT??????
Who’s kidding who? Its BS from top to bottom and all the way thru.
Try saying that without being a twit, for once?
“Its all scripted….”
What can I say, you asked and he delivered.
I think they should just hold the election on Labor Day or very soon after that. Why always the 4th of November? They’ve got two more months to screw with our minds, after these conventions. And they’ve been campaigning since 2011. I say, since the conventions are just election theater now, as they always knew who their main pick would be, months ago. Stop wasting more time and money, promising things they’ll never deliver. Just tell us who the wealthiest citizens and special interests (corp.s) want in office. And that’s that. Because they’re going to screw with the actual vote every way they can think of. Realigning districts, disqualifying trouble spot voters, confusing the ballot design or layout, adding dead people to the rolls, losing write-in ballots. And the tricks go on and on.
BTW, it figures we’ve got a delegate named Pope, from my state of Md. Can’t seem to get away from the Vatican’s influence, when it comes to politics. 🙂
uhm how does this screw with ron paul?
“The rules are designed to limit the ability of insurgent presidential candidates to amass delegates to future Republican conventions. They will bind delegates to the outcome of presidential primaries and caucuses, preventing a candidate like Paul from pushing up their delegate counts at state conventions.” http://washingtonpost.com/national/republican-convention-briefly-gets-rowdy-as-ron-paul-backers-take-offense-to-new-party-rules/2012/08/28/67bb0006-f152-11e1-b74c-84ed55e0300b_story.html
What am I missing? They have teleprompters, I hardly think that is a surprise. The DNC will have them as well. If you are shocked a large event like a political convention is scripted then you have lived a very sheltered existence.
In the old days, these people had their speeches written on paper at the podium. This is just the high-tech version. Nobody has been giving speeches off the cuff for decades.
There is nothing wrong with teleprompters. The problem is that they were calling for a vote and the result of that vote was pre-programmed into the teleprompter before anyone cast their aye’s and nay’s. The fact that the aye’s and nay’s were about equal further compounds the problem.
This sort of behavior concerns me.
the result of that vote was pre-programmed into the teleprompter before anyone cast their aye’s and nay’s.
Sad, isn’t it, that nobody really seems to care?
I have a friend who is hoping for a gentle revolution/correction. I don’t think it is really going to happen that way.
If this doesn’t show those who actually paid attention that the entire primary season was rigged in favor of Romney, nothing will.
if they already know what the outcome is going to be, why does it concern you that it’s preprogrammed into the teleprompter? The entire convention process is nothing more than a party for lots of the faithful to get together and go through that rediculous process. What a waste!
A teleprompter at the Republican convention? Surely you jest! The Republicans bashed Obama up one side and down the other for using a teleprompter. No way they could be that hypocritical.
Hypocrisy and lies are all they know.
Obama took on 140 congressmen without a teleprompter and beat them all with his good recall of facts and figures, he made all of them look like schoolchildren.
Would someone please clue me in as to why the Republicans always chant “USA USA USA USA”?
It’s racism, and dog-whistle politics, so white voters would realize that Obama is black.
I disagree. I think it is a simpler call to Mindless Patriotism: don’t criticize anything the government is doing because that would be unpatriotic.
This is “used” to insulate the Pukes from criticism of their own policies and not raised as an issue when Obama or the Democrats are being criticized.
Its a “filter” and a dog whistle.
The covert racism is brought up by references/jokes regarding birth certificates and otherness.
Ron Paul wasn’t screwed by anyone. He got an hour at the convention for a video tribute and a speech for his son. Besides that, he’s been working for Mitt Romney the whole primary season, using his funds to attack all the other challengers.
For his work, he did get significant platform considerations as well.
The platform calls for auditing the Fed, a gold commission, internet freedom, and reducing overcriminalization.
From the platform:
The resources of the federal government’s law enforcement and judicial systems have been strained by two unfortunate expansions: the over-criminalization of behavior and the over-federalization of offenses. The number of criminal offenses in the U.S. Code increased from 3,000 in the early 1980s to over 4,450 by 2008. Federal criminal law should focus on acts by federal employees or acts committed on federal property – and leave the rest to the States. Then Congress should withdraw from federal departments and agencies the power to criminalize behavior, a practice which, according to the Congressional Research Service, has created “tens of thousands” of criminal offenses. No one other than an elected representative should have the authority to define a criminal act and set criminal penalties. In the same way, Congress should reconsider the extent to which it has federalized offenses traditionally handled on the State or local level.
The irony was the Ron Paul rally nearby was more exciting than the GOP convention.
Ron Paul got a speech for his son, eh?
Brilliant. Idiot.
It’s not a teleprompter. It’s the new Google speech-to-text thing.
How fucking blind are you people?
A speech-to-text thing never has what you say before you say it and no teleprompter should ever have the RESULT OF A VOTE in the script for Christ’s sake!
Has JCD overestimated the intelligence of his audience by a few orders of magnitude or what?
Obviously.
Whoa – just a joke. Guess I don’t post here enough for people to recognize my bent sense of humor. Next time I’ll add the emoticon.
John,
Thanks for the video. It should be preserved for the annals of infamy.
I just finished watching the RNC speeches on YouTube.
To borrow your saying: “We’re screwed!”
It’s funny in a gallows humor sort of way that Paul Ryan says “Time is running out.” but Romney says something about putting us on track to balance the budget. Gee, Mitt, when do you think DC will stop spending more than it brings in? 2050?
The big question now is will nuking Iran delay the economic recovery?
We got to do that now see, cuz we can’t allow a country that exports terrorism to have nukes. (Other than the US and Israel.)
Of course, I’m not suggesting that Obama won’t nuke Iran. Just not before the election.
Alas! Ron Paul, I guess we didn’t deserve you!
Now, how many here still intend on going out to vote? Are you still convinced that you’re ballot makes a difference?
Yes I do, I know it won’t make a difference except to make me feel better when I bitch about politicians.
But how does voting make you feel better?
If you are voting just for the sake of it, why vote at all? If this is your sole reason then surely by voting you are simply giving the corrupt establishment the validation it so desires from all of us.
It like politics, it’s all about appearance. It won’t make any difference but in the lizard part of the brain, the one that keeps alfie breathing, it releases endorphins that make you feel like you accomplished something.
The part where it says
“Insert loud applause here and look angry ”
.. is a bit over the top.
I´m surprised at how few people actually watched the video before commenting. Yes, it´s common practice to have a teleprompter, but is it also common practice to have the result of a vote pre-scripted? This was truly a sad sad day for the entire world.
I saw the video, and admit that I missed the point JCD was making. Now the scriptedness makes sense, because the point was they knew they were winning the vote, but on the floor, if you go by the audio, they lost the vote. The Paul delegates were just louder. This led to cheers of USA in an attempt to drown them out. Later this led to cries of racism, as Boehner hurriedly calls up the next speaker, from Puerto Rico.
I would like to know who is writing the script.
I managed to find Clint Eastwood’s act at the RNC on my Roku box and I was not amused.
The RNC has been reduced to the level of a vaudeville act.
I am not surprised.
Reportedly, no script for that one.
It usually takes more than three weeks to prepare a good impromptu speech.
— Mark Twain (1835-1910)
“You’re not good in politics until you can fake sincerity.” //// close enough.
The only way this changes is if more people vote for independent candidates.
only has meaning if the independent candidate is better known and well-liked than the candidates from the two major parties. That’s unlikely to ever happen in our presidential elections. At least not in the lifetime of most of us.
I LOVE IT! Republicans disenfranchising their own folks!
