Privacy is still fine and well. You still hold the keys to it. Problem is that majority is buying the “convenience” spin and “cool” spin giving corporations and government the store.
You must be somewhat paranoid and aware to keep out of the tracking jaws. You must actively think about it and fight back as possible. It is possible.
Example: I use Android, yet I do not have Google account and have disabled Google services on it… Works just fine (if not better).
List of such things goes on and on and you must be educated and active and paranoid to fight back. Security and privacy does not come with convenience.
For this particular example: I have been Anonimyzer customer once, early on. I quit on rumors of takeover/sale. Have been aware of government public/private partnership of it as soon as it happened although I have quit the service prior to it…
Also, as The People we must do our duty to remove public servants who put collectivism first and bring in those for individual rights. Again against “convenience” (isn’t it great convenience to have universal healthcare? – yes if you want Government informed of and controlling your health). You don’t want likes of Trapwire in your life – remove Progressive scum, Left and Right from public service. Let them move to China or France. No collective benefit is worth violation of a single persons individual rights.

I have no doubt the data base is there and that it is collecting staggering amounts of data. I’m confident that no matter who does what you can go to that data base and do enough digging to come up with electronic data that would be useful but one of the things that really pisses me off is that I’m seriously dubious that it would actually prevent terrorist from crossing our open border and by using a little cash and a contact making a very painful attack if they wished to.
This blasted thing is going to be a useful tool for the government putting down the peasants but I figure it is pretty much worthless in the war on drugs and international terrorist. That their main concern is no longer terrorist, drug dealers, or catching illegals should be obvious when you look at what they are spending money on: Systems to suppress riots and put down domestic insurrections. Obama and friends seem to be afraid the peasants are going to try and storm the Bastille and they, the aristocrats, are going to prevent it.

However, as president, Obama has continued where president Bush left off in calling for extending the legislation and even actively preventing any judicial oversight of the wiretapping program.
I feel doomed no matter who I vote for! They both lie! One is blatantly for the RICH (screw the 99%) and one is afraid to stand up or is now just dismissive of his own campaign promises. Either way, the common folks are screwed!

It’s like an argument. Don’t amount to much if one side refuses to participate. I will continue to live my life like the chump power brokers don’t exist. The greatest advancement in public surveillance, came with getting us to switch over from analog communications, to digital. Because back when we use to talk on all analog telephone systems. The only way to monitor what was said, was to hire human listeners to handle all the variations in human voice and dialects. And obviously, you can only do real time voice analysis and transcription, at a limited rate. Which also limits how many channels can be processed, at once. So the snoops tended to pick and choose who to monitor. Rather than data mining the entire public’s communications, for juicy gems.
But when things got digitized. And email and text replaced a lot of human real time communications. It became possible to apply pattern searches and such, to all this causal chatter. And high speed computers could do most of the work. Keeping the cost down. The only thing that had to be done, was to keep the public thinking their digitized thoughts, weren’t being monitored by anyone, if they weren’t breaking any laws. Which is how court sanctioned wiretapping use to work.
Also, anyone claiming it made your communications untraceable and unmonitored. Was to be 100% believable and trustworthy, for its entire lifetime. And not a front, for covert intelligence gathering. Making sure no one can form a movement, that inconveniences big government, without it being known and infiltrated. And rendered useless. Sort of what happened to the Weathermen Underground.
The unintended consequences as we march towards SkyNet are many, varied, and far reaching.
