This just in: schmucks worldwide believe “global warming” means “no more snow anywhere on the planet”.
Actually some of your friends made exactly that claim for England. By this point in time they were supposed to be having no more snow only, well, they are having plenty of snow.
The Greenlanders were able to grow barley when the place was first colonized. Then it got cold and somehow or other they vanished.
We can’t grow barley there now so it must have been warmer then than now. Climate is like the weather. It changes. When it does you need to adapt because we sure can’t control it.
According to Dr David Viner, a senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia, within a few years winter snowfall will become “a very rare and exciting event”.
“Children just aren’t going to know what snow is,” he said.
Its been global warming, global cooling and Y2K end of the world since the 70’s. All I know is that up here in the northeast of America it’s unusually balmy this winter. Heating costs way down and the ski resorts are not happy.
Zzzzzzz….
Hey! Wake Up! This is no time to hibernate.
The planet is 4 billion years old. We’ve been recording the weather for 120 years. Yeah, I see the weather patterns.
We have records for climate for much longer than that, though, and it’s climate, not weather, that is the main concern.
Yes, and here is climate record since last ice age from Greenland ice core, published, peer reviewed…
http://nationalreview.com/sites/default/files/nfs/uploaded/u3177/easterbrook_fig5.png
Crucial obvious conclusions from it:
-We are in global warming.
-It is warming from extreme LOWS compared to average of last 10000 years.
-We are in 10% COLDEST years since last ice age.
-Temperatures were significantly WARMER during most historical periods.
Second confirming factor of these numbers: retreating glaciers of Greenland (what Global Warming Activist would call “Oh, The Humanity!”) are revealing long buried remains of large farming communities from medieval times. It is still not warm enough to support such agriculture there nor expected to be for hundred of years at this level ow warming…
Second hit for AGW nuts no one speaks of: 200000 years long records from Antarctic ice core… For 200000 years CO2 was never cause of global warming. Increase in CO2 concentrations over that period always FOLLOWED periods of warming. Never led. Followed by several hundred years delay. In other words – over last 200000years CO2 concentration was never the cause but consequence of global warming.
I am enjoying the mild winter. However, warming and cooling are based on many more factors than just carbon dioxide. There is the sun, the internal radiation of the Earth, and other factors at play. There is no need to panic and there is no need to destroy are economies in an effort to stop global warming.
Good thing that stopping global warning does not destroy the economy anyway, then.
Really, carbon credits, gas taxes, and making it impossible to build a new building make stuff more expensive.
Food is now more expensive because Obama is denying water to California farmers.
Our economy is taking a hit due to env
environmental regulations.
Sorry hit submit too soon,
i always love the former title “Global Warming” that was changed to the butt covering “Climate Change”. HAR!
here is a nice little ditty about the weather.. you will need to read through several panels starting with this one.
http://arcamax.com/thefunnies/nonsequitur/s-1090537
I don’t remember there being so many February tornadoes before.
Like you said you don’t remember. You’d need to check records to have a clue if this is more than slightly unusual and our records don’t go back all that far. If we had detailed weather records for a few million years we might actually understand what’s going on.
http://wattsupwiththat.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/global_warm-cold.png
According to new research, global warming is making the world colder.
At least that’s the headline that one newspaper put on it.
Maybe reporters are stupid?
This is why dumb people (re: Conservatives who thought the world was flat, 6,000 years old, evolution if fake, we never went to the moon, etc) should never be listened too. They don’t understand science or reality. Facts are foreign to them. They argue by anecdote, not preponderance of facts. HEY! I’ll challenge you. I’LL take all the scientists and we’ll build an airplane. You take all the “faith based” politicians and YOU build a plane. Then we’ll see which one will fly. I’m willing to make a guess, are you?
Actually my problem with man made global warming is I’m a pragmatist. The evidence the theory was based on was seriously lame from day one. At the present the evidence says that the results of burning all those fossils fuels is having a truly negligible impact on the climate.
Ground water depletion, overgrazing, deforestation, over use of irrigation are all more pressing issues but the scam artists can’t make as much money off it as they have off man made global warming.
You do know that Al Gore bought a seafront mansion don’t you?
I love you people. Half of you tossing out emotional bombs about saving our poor earth from the nasty humans, the other half trying to bring some sanity to the conversation with facts. (Facts? On THIS blog?)
Well, hell. What does it matter? The Russian Times is pretty certain we’re all going into asteroid winter in just a few months, anyway. I guess the Mayans were right. Just off by a couple of months. http://rt.com/news/paint-asteroid-earth-nasa-767/ Oh, sure. Other “respected” scientists are saying it’s just a bunch of ballyhoo. But the RT has hardly ever let me down! So, as soon as they figure out exactly where it’s gonna go bang, I moving to as close as I can get to the exact opposite point on the globe. I’m hoping for Tahiti as my new home. (Note to self: remember to pack parka.)
Animby, if you locate the exact opposite point of impact and manage to get there in time, would you do something for me? Squat down in a “pre-jumping” position and try to time a full-out jump, arms swinging up as well, in unison with the asteroid impact. Have a camera on your head and also one on a tripod so I can watch the results on You Tube. We won’t get another opportunity like this in our lifetime. I guarantee you millions of hits.
Outstanding!
I’ll post the video here, if the interwebbytubies are still clear.
wow the orbit of this thing sux….
it gets closer and closer every year..
guess they will have to point a couple of them space
based ICBM’s at it….
That’s a cool photo if it’s real. Could you dig a covered walkway out of that?
Yup. Did it once in the town of Blue River, British Columbia which gets a crap load of snow every year. Also, that’s why exterior doors in cold climates open into the house, not out.
I figured exterior doors open inward because if they open outward, you have to put the hinges on the outside, and anyone could break in.
Really? Most doors in Taiwan open into the building. Last time I checked, Taiwan was semi-tropical. Oh no, the global warming must have turned Taiwan into cold climate.
Why do we think it is global warming as a bad thing, when that might just be the norm for the planet. If I am mistaken scientists say much of the earth was in a tropic climate millions of years ago. Take the desert for instance where once lush tropical areas where dinosaurs (a word that has lost its serious scientific importance and value that was reduce to a word associated with children and entertainment) roamed. And, was it not the on set of the ice age killing the dinosaurs it at one time the popular theory of what killed the dinosaurs ? I would think the issue really is “global cooling” is what the plant is shaking off the last of the ice age . “Global warming” is a return to the norm for the planet.
No solution presented for global warming has any chance of avoiding global warming, according to the science, yet they keep pushing the same policies.
Chinese CO2 is more than America.
Here’s a site that thinks we are heading for the start of an ice age now.
http://iceagenow.com/
For (great) Cthulhu’s sake! All this squabbling over whether global warming is man made or not. Does it really matter? Reducing pollution and mitigating the damage we do to the environment are desirable outcomes that pretty much everyone agrees with. The political and economic powers on either side of this argument do not give a rats arse as long as you give them your consent to spend your money and create hegemony. Fight the power, not the environment.
I love scientist who try and figure out weather to favor their cause which lately has been Global warming. Its great if they were smart enough to figure it out and prove it. Although we only have accurate records for a little over 100 years. Of course the Earth is way older then that and we know has faced extreme temperatures of cold and hot. Ever before man did anything to even possible affect it. I remember only a few years ago everyone was predicting another Ice age. Then it was tropical, then it was droughts. Whatever it is, I think its very uncontrollable and even if we could figure out what is causing it. Not sure we could do anything to change it.
Well, I’m not sure what is happening here on Earth but I do know that all those probes we sent to Mars is having an adverse effect on its climate. It’s getting warmer there, too. How else do you explain it?
Peter Gleick decided to make up a fake memo to go along with some documents he phished from the Heartland Institute. After people figured out he was the source, mainly because he put his own name in the memo as a man of importance, now he claims to have gotten the memo in the mail anonymously. After all his wild theorizing, turns out oil companies weren’t funding his enemies.

“Objection: It was way colder than normal today in Wagga Wagga, proof that there is no global warming.
Answer: The chaotic nature of weather means that no conclusion about climate can ever be drawn from a single data point, hot or cold. The temperature of one place at one time is just weather, and says nothing about climate, much less climate change, much less global climate change.”
This is hilarious. I post a funny photo I found online, add a title that has nothing to do with the photo, and you guys are off to the races.
Uncle Dave shitting all over himself trying to insult every visitor here says:

This is hilarious. I post a funny photo I found online, add a title that has nothing to do with the photo, and you guys are off to the races. /// I thought the photo supported the idea that snow was drifting up on the other side of the door?
I thought much meaning is always derived from context, but thanks for setting me straight.
A site designed to rick-roll it’s visitors? I guess the good times are over. If you’ve donated, like me, then you’re an idiot.
Cya bobbs.
Hey Spear—its only “a little bit” insulting. Not a game ender. Regardless of what I think, what UncDave thinks, what those who post think, isn’t the important point what “YOU” get out of this forum?
I think so.
Fact is: Uncle Dave is WRONG. When a person goes out and chooses a random photo to match with an open ended or an ambiguous heading, THEN BY DEFINITION: its not random at all, just as the developed thread shows. Maybe Unc Dave doesn’t recognize his own intentionality, but I found it REWARDING to match the closed door with the heading. Somthing an ARTIST will do: symbolic speech allowing each viewer to take from it what they will.
The fact that Unc Dave is ignorant of his own shallow intellectual endeavors doesn’t mean we should, Pedro notwithstanding.
One more idiot’s opinion should have no more weight than any other?
Ha, ha. Umbrage. A town in Italy without electricity or sewers.
bobbo, you’ve got it completely backwards.
I found the photo and posted it. The Global Warming title was an after thought.
I actually didn’t expect a now 70+ set of comments on GW. Seems everyone on here jumped on the global warming thing, not seeing that it was meant ironically and ignoring the photo.
Perhaps I should have done this as a Caption This Photo so as to not upset your delicate sensibilities.
thanks unc==but I’m not sensitive about it at all. Thats probably about as true as you being “in”-sensitive?
But my main point which you may still be missing is: CONTEXT.
Whats big in the news right now?==39 people dead from Early season Extra Strong Tornados, and a week ago large snow storms.
Yes–Global Climate Change and indeed after record setting weather it could indeed snow again.
Caption this photo was fine and indeed, there may be no subtle link to your own subconscious but a door closed to the outside weather was to me completely fitting your headline==and you did choose it.
Why you chose to belittle your own readers is a bit beyond me. Bored? Tired? Ennui?? Repetitive Post Syndrome? Just not wanting to read Pedro spout off endlessly? Or even myself?
Surely you weren’t thinking of me????? Ha, ha. I just keep typing until I crack myself up, and consider it a job well done.
We are all dying from our own effluent. Slowly, but still dying. Someone should post about it.
But who wants to explain how trillions of tons of co2 can be put into the atmosphere and there should be no cause and effect therefrom??
Guyver????
Ha, ha. Down right religious we become. Faith and Bejesus.
So much wrong facts in so little space.
It’s hard to work out who’s worse.
Maybe Bobbo, for not only being inaccurate, but also smug about it. Pedro, just kicking back causing fun and games.
Loved Dvorak’s recent PCMag article about Google Street View. The sarcastic JCD is a treasure, along with his column about new features for a phone.
The problem with both sides of the argument is they try to use weather to make their climate arguments.
Oh come on. Who cannot do that trick of piling up snow
on your doorway. Real probably only in central europe at this time.
If there is a pile of snow like that in front of your house, it’s also on the roof. Time to get out before it collapses. Oh shit, the shovel is still in the shed.
I’d be more incline to believe in climate shift. Which happens naturally, anyway, without man’s hand in it. Than climate change, which really doesn’t mean very much. What climate, what change? How does climate never change?
As for some of the increases in storms and tornadoes in the US. I’ve occasionally wondered if increased urban sprawl isn’t to blame. Every time they knock down a forest, to make way for more mega-homes. That’s got to effect the vegetation buffer that keeps vortexes from forming all over. But of course the climate scientists never want to blame high end housing development. It’s “hand off” that sacred cow. Just as they won’t blame all the air travel up in the skies. It’s always your and my little sedan’s exhaust, that’s bringing the earth to it knees. How convenient the middle class lifestyle is always the scapegoat. But nothing above that, ever is. Yeah I know. We don’t believe in “Planes bad, trains good” on this blog. But right after 9-11, when all the jetliners were grounded for a few days. They measured a marked change in weather patterns. So don’t tell me that over 30k flights a day, has no significant effect on the weather. I also wonder if the weather will be different down in Florida, now that there are no more Space Shuttle launches? Does NASA bother to monitor that, or just deny it has any effect?
