A German retiree who wired up a high-voltage cable to try to wipe out the moles digging up his garden killed himself instead, police said Thursday.

Uwe Werner, police spokesman in Stralsund north of Berlin, said the 63-year-old retired construction foreman was found dead in the garden of his weekend house in Zingst next to a 380-volt cable and metal spikes rammed into the ground.

“The moles survived,” Werner said, noting the voltage was enough to run a cement mixer or heavy-duty power saw. “It was in any event an unorthodox method to try to get rid of moles.”

Qualifies in every way — dumb and dead!

The thing is, if the genes are passed down, it’s not really natural selection. Granted the weeding out could take several generations.

  2. Mike Voice says:

    I agre with #1.

At 63, the guy should have had plenty of chances to procreate.

That he lived to 63 also shows that he only recently contracted “the stupids”, or has been amazingly lucky to have survived for all those years…

  3. Ron says:

I think the other scary part is where it said he was a retired construction foreman. It is a miracle he didn’t get killed or kill someone else in that job.

  4. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

    380 volts?

Where does one get 380 volts? Or is that the metric version of 240?

  5. Ron says:

Europe uses a higher voltage than the US and 380V is a common three phase voltage, but in Germany it is listed as 400V not 380V.

  6. Higghawker says:

Those pesky moles can drive the most sane to…………………well, I guess this!!!!!

  7. Eric Bardes says:

    3-phase 380v is the same ratio (1.0/0.57) of 220v as 3-phase 208v is to 120v.

    Meeting of the minds,
    Out for 3 days…

  9. Steve Baumann says:

Sometimes you kill the mole and sometimes the mole kills you! What goes around, comes around! It seemed like a good idea at the time! Hey,watch this!!!
