This guy lives down the street from me and does a crazy job every year with his lights (and yes those are 20 foot steel structures coming from his roof to hold the stars and santa up) but anyways its all synchronized to music and is playable through your radio via his radio antenna. He does a very nice job and also synchs some of the other neighbors houses as well but his is the only one noteworthy. Perhaps his display inspired charity in others. In that case it would be a good thing. Inspiration is often lacking in modern life and we need all of it we can find.
Yeah I am sure people drove by that and said wow, lights and music make me want to feed children.
Nope most come away with either:
A) What a waste of money
B) I could do better
C) Hey better him than me
D) He’s got too much time on his hands
E) I should put up some lights
F) I would hate to see his power bill
People don’t generally see a display like that and say. I should go and bag some groceries for the homeless at the food bank. Hell they probably don’t even know what a food bank is.

All this commercialization, light shows, dancing and parties on the Lord’s day is rather disgusting.
Since the way we celebrate “Christmas” is a remnant of a Pagan Solstice celebration, and the church picked Dec 25 so as to capitalize on a pre-existing celebration, y0u are overruled.
Easter, same thing, except in the case of Easter, the church goes by a formula involving the first Sunday after a full moon after the spring equinox, or something like that.

Folks have been having a good time at the Winter Solstice since long before the myth of Jesus came along.
Respectful for Jesus, the Pagan’s moved the party to Oct 31st even though Jesus was NOT born on Dec 25th. That also allowed enough time to prep for the new year and party again.
So IMHO, Dec 25th should really be a day of quiet reflection as the church approved date. Factually, Jesus was born closer to March and on a wednesday since God created the Sun a few days earlier.
I appreciate your beliefs, and you should certainly enjoy the holiday. However, the pagan festival of the winter solstice does NOT occur on Oct 31. That is the Harvest festival.
The Winter Solstice has always been Dec 21. How could anyone “move” the lengths of the days? The intermingling of Christmas with Hannakuah, (an odd oil lamp thing), and the Solstice is not coincidental. The religions wanted to co-opt the Solstice festivals, (well established by the people for eons), for their own purposes.

Cursor_ I see your point, and that thought would cross many minds, but it’s not realistic. The car those people are driving by in could each feed say, an average of 15,000 children. Having a nice dinner out for two could feed 150 children. Where do you begin? That light show costs less than a gym membership.
Is that light fanatic also generous to the poor? If you enjoy that kind of thing but can’t afford more than a few lights and a plastic tree, wouldn’t that be a treat to see every year if you lived in the same town?

Rick Perry said that children cannot openly celebrate Christmas in public or pray in school.
This Christmas display can probably be seen from the International Space Station.
Kids can pray silently in school and nobody would ever know.
