OK. OK. , we get your point. Most things people call “miracles” are surely just natural occurrences.
But there is a colloquial use of that word, too. I did a quick Google and came up with this one.. “Al Gionfriddo’s miraculous catch of a Joe DiMaggio line drive in 1947” I’m pretty sure the sports writer wasn’t writing of literal divine intervention.
However, I think there is another use of the word which I applaud — and that is for gratitude. My own theology is that all good things come from God, in some sort of mystical way. Even naturalistic things like a wild flower. So when something really improbably good happens, I take that moment to remind myself to be grateful to God.
I don’t throw around the word “miracle” much, but heck, all of life strikes me as one big miracle sometimes.
Instead of calling this a miracle, give the credit where it is due. Ellen Guffey persevered and tracked down Stanley’s foster family. No miracle, just hard work and a lot of compassion by someone with a big heart.
