Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. said on Monday it aims to mass-produce spark-resistant batteries, eyeing a potential sales opportunity following incidents involving rivals’ battery packs.

The Panasonic brand maker said it has boosted its production capacity of batteries insulated with heatproof layers to five million units per month, up from 100,000 in April.

Japanese rivals and battery market leaders Sony Corp. and Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd. have been hit by recalls of high-power batteries for PCs and cellphones, following much-publicized incidents in which batteries ignited.

Nice of Sony and Sanyo to offer business opportunities to their rivals.

You sound like my old manager back in 1996… He was convinced the Internet was a fad and no-one would ever be able to make any money off it since everything was for free. 😉 Btw… I bought my first personal laptop two weeks ago… no, it’s not a fad my friend.

Am I the only one who thinks you could put that pictured computer in the Tate Gallery — as is — and call it a work of art?

There is something really artful about it – the fusion of high-tech sleek design and the brute primacy of fire. Symmetry scorched by asymmetry.

It could be a metaphor of our modern world. Cool.
