BOYM’s Buildings of Disaster are miniature replicas of famous structures where some tragic or terrible events happened to take place. Some of these buildings may have been prized architectural landmarks, others – non-descript anonymous structures. But disaster changes everything. The images of burning or exploded buildings make a different, populist history of architecture, one based on emotional involvement rather than on scholarly appreciation. In our media-saturated time, the world disasters stand as people’s measure of history, and the sites of tragic events often become involuntary tourist destinations.

Where’s the Oval Office? Our President seems to have turned that area into a decision making disaster. Can someone make a pewter figurine of all of Iraq?
And how about…
* WTC after the September 11?
* Tacoma Narrows Bridge?
* San Francisco Earthquake of 1906?
* The Tri-State Tornado in 1925?
* The collapse of South Fork Dam in 1889?
Personally, I’m waiting for the Politicians of Disaster series:
– George Sr vomiting on the Japanese PM
– Dukakis wearing the tank helmet
– A gaggle of Senators, Congressmen, etc chasing after their secretaries with Clinton standing, Monica on bended knee in the middle
– Dan Quail spelling potatoe
– The Hillary bobble head which wobbles as Bill reads a speech next to her
– The 734 foot long diorama depicting Bush 43’s entire presidency
A new item every week.
WTF?
The white bronco is a famous structures where some tragic or terrible events happened to take place.????
OJ cowering on the floorboards is tragic??
The only thing tragic is that so many people felt compelled to watch….
Dividing By Zero is the worst disaster of all.
