What’s next? We have to start calling politicians other than [censored] and [censored] and [REALLY censored]?

Domestic dogs, cats, hamsters or budgerigars should be rebranded as “companion animals” while owners should be known as “human carers”, they insist. Even terms such as wildlife are dismissed as insulting to the animals concerned – who should instead be known as “free-living”, the academics including an Oxford professor suggest. The call comes from the editors of then Journal of Animal Ethics, a new academic publication devoted to the issue.
[…]
In its first editorial, the journal – jointly published by Prof Linzey’s centre and the University of Illinois in the US – condemns the use of terms such as ”critters” and “beasts”. It argues that “derogatory” language about animals can affect the way that they are treated. […] We invite authors to use the words ‘free-living’, ‘free-ranging’ or ‘free-roaming’ rather than ‘wild animals’” […] Phrases such as “sly as a fox, “eat like a pig” or “drunk as a skunk” are all unfair to animals, they claim.

  1. ECA says:

    When a pet becomes a viable communicating/THINKING. pet..it will become a SLAVE.

We will raise them to DO, our work.

  2. dusanmal says:

It is ideology again. Progressive ideology. And its attempt to force its own World view on everyone. Oppression, not PC.
Now I am even more happy to train for shooting and later eating some of those wild pray animals. Sadly I have not started that normal, biological and evolutionary human behavior earlier in life.

  3. podman says:

When my dog comes home with a paycheck and provides me with a meal, then maybe I will consider treating him like a human. What BS.

  4. Fur Ball says:

Before I begin my comment, I’d like to defer to you – the readers, asking that you may open your mind to the possibility of being offended by the words that follow.

If this is an unlikely option, please avert your gaze, and that of those around you for the next few seconds to avoid pointless pain upon your soul and that of your family.

As a fringe lunatic, I take no responsibity for the words that may spill from my appendages in the next few seconds – be warned.

    OK – here we go.

FFS – they’re f**ing animals – as are we the human overlords of this planet. Researchers, go get a life. Write and hypothesise all you want – but f**k off from bothering the rest of us with your inane drivel until you have a point that will assist us all to get on better and stop killing each opther with greed and delusion. Smelly dogs, aloof cats and all other pets, work animals and unwanted mistakes from the genetic pool. This may include you.

  5. Steve S says:

I was going to leave a comment but after reading what Fur Ball said, I can’t top that.

  6. Drive By Poster says:

There’s some Liberals who think people should be able to sue on behalf of “Mother Earth”. Panama or Guatemala or what ever latin country that now a former pot/cocaine grower for President is now ruler of has such a law.

Personally? De-fund the University of Illinois and strip these professors of their jobs. Give them jobs in animal control until they see the Light.

  7. Bob says:

Journal of Animal Ethics??? I can’t seem to find that on the news stand. So a bunch of idiots have stupid ideas. What’s new?

  8. Cap'nKangaroo says:

So a couple of Professors have started a new “Journal”. That doesn’t mean we have to pay attention to them. That they come close to being bat-shit crazy will be evident when nobody but the P*ta crowd subscribes to this twice yearly publication.

And to the phrase “eat like a pig”, if you have not grown up on a farm with hogs, you have no idea how apt the phrase can be.

  9. The_Tick says:

“It goes on: “We invite authors to use the words ‘free-living’, ‘free-ranging’ or ‘free-roaming’ rather than ‘wild animals’” ……………………………………………………………………………………..
Or perhaps they use the words, Free-to starve to death, or Free-to get your face torn off by a pack of wolves. Tons of shit you could put after free instead of wild.

  10. Floyd says:

Cats and dogs do useful things, like cats killing mice and some dogs herding sheep or retrieving ducks when hunting (for instance). They also can be very good companions.

By the way, we like our cats and my daughter’s dogs, but neither cats nor dogs have “ethics.” Those pets just do what they are inclined to do as carnivores. An animal ideologue can’t change what cats or dogs do.

The “Journal of Animal Ethics” must be staffed by Looney Tunes.

  11. Gary in Gilroy says:

My dog will be my companion when he equally helps out scooping up my poop. Until then, he’s my pet.

  12. Sea Lawyer says:

Only because some humans have figured out how to not have to worry about starving have we been able devote so much effort and time to useless nonsense like this.

  13. BubbaRay says:

How to speak about pets women and be politically correct:

    1. She is not a ‘BABE’ or a ‘CHICK’ – She is a ‘BREASTED AMERICAN.’

    2. She is not ‘EASY’ – She is ‘HORIZONTALLY ACCESSIBLE.’

    3. She is not a ‘DUMB BLONDE’ – She is a ‘LIGHT-HAIRED DETOUR OFF THE INFORMATION SUPERHIGHWAY.’

    4. She has not ‘BEEN AROUND’ – She is a ‘PREVIOUSLY-ENJOYED COMPANION.’

    5. She does not ‘NAG’ you – She becomes ‘VERBALLY REPETITIVE.’

    6. She is not a ‘TWO-BIT HOOKER’ – She is a ‘ LOW COST PROVIDER.’

  14. bobbo, Republicans lie about everything all the time says:

Ha, ha. Bubba–been holding it in for so long you had to let it go?

Sadly, how we treat pets or other animals does correlate to how we treat one another all the way down to removing “personhood” from those we wish to abuse.

As in so many other things, it should be a touchstone, not a dogma.

  15. Fluffy Rabbit says:

Obviously these so-called “academics” have never lived with a cat like mine. If they had, their article would be about how the cats should show us humans more respect.

  16. NoMoreETard says:

Well finally, an issue that both liberals and conservatives can agree on! Time for a steak!

  17. sargasso_c says:

Noble Creatures were those which followed Man to achieve noble purpose. War. Conquest. Discovery. These were horses, dogs. Other domestic creatures followed but were never regarded as noble companions. Horses and dogs lay their lives before their masters in battle. They are our companions.

  18. LibertyLover says:

Got this spam joke a few days ago. I think it sums up this post.

    My Dog Scooter

My dog sleeps about 20 hours a day.

He has his food prepared for him.

He can eat whenever he wants, 24/7/365.

His meals are provided at no cost to him.

He visits the doctor once a year for his checkup, and again during the year if any medical needs arise. For this He pays nothing, and nothing is required of him.

He lives in a nice neighborhood in a house that is much larger than He needs, but He is not required to do any upkeep.

If He makes a mess, someone else cleans it up.

He has his choice of luxurious places to sleep.

He receives these accommodations absolutely free

He is living like a king, and has absolutely no expenses whatsoever.

All of his costs are picked up by others who must go out and earn a living every day.

I was just thinking about all this, and suddenly it hit me like a brick in the head: my dog is a politician!

  19. Gazbo says:

My wife calls ME “beast” and sometimes “critter”; now I can “explain” to her why she’s wrong. (She isn’t).

  20. gmknobl says:

What a complete bunch of baloney. Rove must be involved with this distraction.

  21. akallio9000 says:

It’d do everybody good if everyone had to butcher their own meat from the carcass for a year each generation.

  22. Floyd says:

Well, I’ve helped butcher an elk once. Delicious…

  23. deowll says:

Lie to me and tell me those weren’t our tax dollars at work.

  24. Very effectively written information. It will likely be priceless to anyone who usess it, together with myself. Sustain the good work – for positive i will take a look at extra posts.
