I think that it’s pretty weak and not that funny. As for the awards, who has the time and patience to watch it? For a compilation of clips from the ceremony, you can head over to Gawker.TV.

  1. Mr, Ed - the Imitation (accept no original) says:

Think??? Since when do sheeple get to think?

  2. Lou Minatti says:

    It needed more cowbell.

  3. Oscar LaVent says:

    I liked it.

BTW, is it obligitory to use the word “sheeple” on this forum at least 25 times a month?

  4. soundwash says:

    It’s mildly funny..

they should be drawn and quartered for shameless ambien plug though. that stuff is ebil.

(or was it a jovial hat tip to the drugged/sleeping masses?) ;p

I did get a kick out of the background meme..

    -reality is what you make,
    -nothing is as it seems,
    -time to awaken from (whatever)
-you are in control of nothing,
    -it’s all in your head…

-plays nicely into consciousness shift thing currently playing out now in the “real world”

    amusing.

    -s

  5. Floyd says:

Didn’t watch the Oscars, don’t really care.

  6. Dick C. Flatline says:

    @Oscar LaVent:

    Yes.

Sheeple, sheeple, sheeple, sheeple, sheeple, sheeple, sheeple, sheeple, sheeple, sheeple, sheeple, sheeple, sheeple, sheeple, sheeple, sheeple, sheeple, sheeple, sheeple, sheeple, sheeple, sheeple, sheeple, sheeple, sheeple.

Whew. Now I can take the rest of the month off.

  7. What? says:

The AE: rewarding attention starved people with more attention because the received more attention than the others.

Like giving a fat man a second plate of food because he finished off the first one so well.

  8. tomdennis says:

I smiled and knew I was going to have a good time watching the show.

  9. ROB WEST says:

I enjoyed it. the show still has magic.

Every year people say how long and boring it was, yet they watch.

  10. admfubar says:

i dont bother to watch oscars.. what is the point in doing so??
the oscars were made up (as well as all the other award shows) to simply pat the industry on the back.. and btw, it is the industy that is doing that patting.
so why watch a show on self congratulation? this is silly, just as silly as watching a sporting event, you may as well watch grass grow.

and one is not supposed to think while watching these show.. if you did you would have noted the things i do and then not waste you time watching them.

  11. I'm "From the future" says:

I already knew who would win.

But, who votes on this stuff? The ‘Academy’?

  12. Benjamin says:

Yawn. I don’t want to watch a bunch of celebritards get rewarded for films they got high salaries to produce. If Hollywood actually produces something decent, I will watch at the theater, but otherwise, I don’t care. I can get the summary the next morning.

  13. retroman81 says:

    No Ricky Gervais no good

  14. Olo Baggins of Bywater says:

Hmmm, looks like the same crowd commenting here as on SNL posts…you know the ones….”they haven’t been funny since”… yeah well YOU have never been funny.

Saw the opening, I liked it. I was reading while watching, a good show for that. It’s also fun to root for my favorites, hear that lady swear at me, see some of them act (?) truly honored and humbled, and watch the hosts act like kids.

I also liked the end where many of the winners walked downstage. Do they do that every year?

  15. jescott418 says:

These people are actors right? So why are they so bad? I mean the music awards are filled with good music? So why are acting awards so filled with people who are terrible on stage?

  16. Skeptic says:

I liked the opening… thought it was amusing and entertaining.

  17. MikeN says:

The whole ceremony is elitist, sexist, and racist. Elitist: They hand out many of the technical awards at a separate ceremony, and even in this show, the ‘lesser’ award winners are treated poorly. Remember Chris Rock suggesting next time they’ll be in the parking lot?
Sexist: Why do they have separate awards for Actor and Actress? Despite Anne’s joke, it’s true. More likely to win if women play a stripper or prostitute.
Racist: Gwyneth Paltrow as a country music star.

  18. sargasso_c says:

Not broadcasted on TV, not streamed, couldn’t find it online. Outside of the USA you get “content is not available in your area”. I am pleased that Firth won best actor. Unsure about Portman, I thought Steinfeld deserved that. Just me.

  19. ramuno says:

#18 Probably because Steinfeld is a newcomer, she wasn’t in the Lead Actress” category, which she might have won. The best parts are always the supporting ones.

  20. bobbo, words have a meaning and a context says:

Gasparrini==”I think that it’s pretty weak and not that funny. As for the awards, who has the time and patience to watch it?” /// Exactly! I feel the same way about Rodeo’s which is why I don’t watch them. OTOH–was the clip meant to be funny?–or an homage to the films being up for awards? As an homage it was very clever and very well done and interesting. What was recreated and what was a copy and paste? Anyone with an interest in the subject matter will have the time and patience to watch it. Probably the best promo for the Awards ever made.

    Heh, heh.

  21. DG says:

Worst Oscars ever. Franco looked constipated throughout the show. Hathaway was trying but the writing was absolutely horrible. Funniest parts were some of the speeches — in some cases inadvertently so.

  22. moss says:

DVR’s rule. How you get to watch all the athletic play of a Super Bowl in under 13 minutes.
