It could be 11,000,001 if we could send Pedro a Black Flag suppository and kill that bug he has up his ass over Apple.

  2. Dallas says:

IPad has no competition until June of next year. Even then, that doesn’t take into account iPad version 2!

iPhone ? The luster is gone. Android is going to kick it’s butt.

AppleTV? Good product ( I have one) but in the long run, GoogleTv is a better bet.

The decision amounts to go all Apple and enjoy the Apple Disney land of products and services.
    /or/
Choose the best of each category but deal with limited interoperability between the products . That is the race under way.

  3. ArianeB says:

Who cares what the new Apple TV costs in parts, its a crappy product: You can’t purchase anything, only rent. To watch previously purchased content, you have to have a computer running itunes on the network. No uPnP support, no 1080 support, no component out (requires an HDMI cable). Adds absolutely no features that are already available on XBox360, Playstation 3, Wii, and many BluRay players.

  4. Special Ed says:

I saw today that Intel is coming out with iOS conversion tool that will take iPhone and iPad apps and run them on the Atom so they can get people off the ARM.

#3 There are plenty of apps on the ipad to let you watch anything you want from almost any source. Netflix, ABC, Hulu, youtube, DailyMotion and hundreds more stream great. It’s a ipod so anything that plays on itunes can be loaded to the ipad. And VLC will let you upload almost any video file and play it.

As for no 1080p, dude it’s a 10 inch screen do you really need 1080p.

  6. ArianeB says:

#5 I was talking about the new Apple TV not the iPad.

BTW #2 Do you have the old Apple TV with a hard drive? I do and I like it. Way better than the new one which is a waste of money.

  7. To the greatest extent computers in our modern world consisted of the same rehash of a windowed environment with a hard drive and mouse arrangement
faster computers and hardware but basically the same
People use computers to run programs , not to run hardware or operating systems
the apple iPad does represent a major and revolutionary change

  8. Floyd says:

#7 but what does the iPad do that’s any different and more useful than a laptop, except that it’s smaller, doesn’t have a normal keyboard with clicky feedback or a protective screen cover, and is harder to read than laptop screens.

The one time I saw an iPad being demoed at Best Buy, it was used to run games.

In the Mac world I prefer the Macbook, but there are many Windows based laptops out there that are sturdy and less expensive than Macbooks.

  9. tjspiel says:

#7 All I can say is that you need to try one to see. I’m not saying it’s a perfect device but it’s way more portable and convenient than a laptop.

Web browsing on a screen that supports multi-touch is really nice. It’s OK on an iphone but really shines on the bigger screen of the iPad. It’s not quite as ground breaking as going from menu driven interfaces to GUIs with mice, but it’s close.

Oh, and it’s not at all hard to read. If you find the text too small (and I typically don’t), you can quickly enlarge it with a two finger gesture or double-tap. They’re the same gestures you use on an iPhone, but again, much more natural on the larger screen.

Someone needs to fix the “Right click here” link on this post. The URL doesn’t work. It has been broken for the last several posts.

  11. pierrelarsen says:

It is interesting that a large percentage of the world cannot even buy the iPad yet.

I Danish living in Portugal. Neither country has a release date so far.

  12. Dallas says:

#12 Pierre,be patient! The hand me downs from the US will not available until the the next version of the iPad in early 2011.

11 million iPads? For a device that doesn’t even have a simple web browser as good as my XP, OS X or Ubuntu machines? WHY? I can’t even view a huge chunk of the web? Forget flash “video” and whether YouTube can use HTML5 or flash. Many web sites use flash for menus and navigation sites. I tried used my roommates iPad to check the menu for the little restaurant (Heartland Cafe) we were going to for lunch, couldn’t (http://www.heartlandcafeseattle.com/). It’s menu and info section is in flash. You can argue all day long it SHOULDN’T be…but it is so deal with it. I pulled it up on my freaken CELL phone (Evo).

This device is cute, porn “safe” and easy enough for grandma, but too limited to be useful. I JUST WANT a web browser that works as well or BETTER than my laptop, email, and video…that’s all I need on a pad. And this thing won’t do it. A million “fart apps” but I can’t lookup huge chunks of the stupid. I’ll wait for a ‘real’ browsers in an Android tablet thank you.

You package something in shinny boxes and run a slick commercial and you sell people anything. ROTFLMAO

  14. moss says:

So, John. Did you pay up on that certain bet, yet?

  15. Special Ed says:

I’m all for renting video content. Rarely do I want to see a movie more than once. You could watch it several times for much less than buying the disk.

Also, the moran directly above me said there wasn’t an adequate browser for the iPad – while you two guys are sitting in the restaurant holding hands across the table, you should go to the iTunes store and download the free AARDE browser.
