  6. TheCommodore says:

The descendants of those Kzinti I was forced to abandon on this planet about 4000 years ago have obviously devolved. But clearly they retain the ability to stand. Fortunately for Earth, Kzinti males have no interest in this tiny subspecies.

  7. Skeptic says:

…which proves that cats are upstanding members of the family.

  8. Skeptic says:

    …or conversely,

I’ve tried, but I just can’t stand cats.

  9. deowll says:

Maybe 45 years ago saw picks of a full sized poodle lined up with some nine or so year old girls dancing on its hind legs. It was about their size. It spent about as much time on its hind legs as on all fours. X-rays showed it had a small change to the pelvis. The same thing could easily happen with cats the only question being do you want to create a population of same by selective breeding. Some extra digit cats have semi thumbs.

Combine the two and you have???

  10. Skeptic says:

Combine the two and you would end up with thumbthing.

  11. Father says:

    Red Dwarf had it right.

  12. Grey says:

I saw one of my cat’s stand once… creepy as hell. Studio Ghibli (often called the Japanese Disney) did a movie called the cat returns, filled with standing (animated) cat’s. Looked weird and unrealistic until i saw mine do it.

  13. Cursor_ says:

Watch out Lolcats and Longcat… now there is Standcat.

  14. Tippis says:

…well, it’s not like cats are famous for their poor balance and weak hind legs. :-/

  15. soundwash says:

all the short hair cats i have had, have always done this. (the one long hair, a persian, -i never saw do this) May also be a combined product
    of their environment and/or owner.

if they are in a boring environment (for a cat) -they may never be compelled to do this.

when i had the persian, the apt we lived in was very subdued and boring-no windows that had any “activity” in them. (apartment in back of building) all other apt/houses were quite the opposite..
