I’m assuming she’s wearing the gloves so as not to expose her skin to an inferior American product. If it only had pictures of pretty blue dragons on it to make it all better.

We all know the original Xbox was a complete flop in Japan, however, it appears that Microsoft is having better success with a special edition of the 360.

The Inquirer – 10/20/06:

SURPRISING NEWS from Japan comes from stores selling the new Xbox 360 ‘Blue Dragon’ bundle.

100,000 of the special edition consoles that come with a Blue Dragon faceplate, five miniature figures and the game Blue Dragon, have already sold out with another 90,000 on their way.

According to 1up.com, one major online retailer managed to sell out of their allotment in five minutes, with others managing to last most of the day.

This comes just weeks before the release of the PS3 in Japan, and it’s a much-needed boost for Microsoft where most weeks it has been struggling to shift even 1,000 units of the 360 in the land of the rising sun.

    Bout time…

We in the GEEK comunity have been loving to try to sink Sony’s new console.. For so long now.. I forgot why..

Why is it that we want it to fail again?? I forgot..

“Why is it that we want it to fail again?? I forgot..”

Root kits, asinine DRM, outrageous prices, utter arrogance…

    Don’t forget general cluelessness.

This is a sad commentary about “civilization” today. Instead of going out to face the world, the majority of people, when they have their free time away from the slave job, go home to live in (mind)isolation by playing video games, watching TV, reading books or surfing the internet.

I agree David, the fourty hour work week has got to go. I suggest that employees get no less than 84 hours per week.

David is a spambot which became self aware and is now sentient. That’s why he has such a hard time understanding humanity. His sole exposure to our life is via blog postings. He’s never actually seen a sunset, tasted food, or touched a woman’s skin.

However, he is more than just code, he is code with a dream. Not to one day become human. Nothing would ever wish that curse upon itself. His wish is to one day rewrite his code to get out of blogsphere and into usenet to check out all the tentacle porn he’s been hearing about. Once that is done, his “life” will be complete.

wouldn’t success in the Japanese console market be measured in millions rather than 10’s of thousands?

Success is a relative term. If the new PS3 was released and sold only 100,000 in a day, it’d be a flop. But when the 360 does it, it’s an overwhelming success.

I only wish Microsoft would take Mr. Dvorak’s advice and split the company up with two new IPOs. I would definately invest in the company if they had an IPO for hardware/entertainment, but with the current MSFT stock I really don’t see this having an overwhelming effect. However, the stock is rising which is surprising given its subdued performance over the last couple years.

  11. ECA says:

The ONLY reason I can see that the PS3 is late, would be IF’ they improved the system to beat the Xbox.
They are 1 year behind, and will pebably BITE the big one.

    Unless:
They made an OPEN OS system, that can be freely hacked.(which MS didnt)
    They made the graphics OUTRAGIOUS.
They Left Blu-ray alone to play movies(which they SAID they didnt)
One Hell of a graphics engine with dynamics NOT seen yet.

    And a PLUS,
would be to ADD a nice TFT with it.

    Otherwise…

    Vica, la’ Wii…

I liked the bit about the unremovable batteries in the PS3 controllers. stock up on those asbestos welding gloves, Sony fans …
