BBC NEWS | Health | Warning over global bird flu plan

A third of countries which have drawn up flu pandemic plans have failed to set out how they would distribute medical treatment, a report has found.

Researchers at the John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Ben Gurion University Israel studied 45 national pandemic plans.

They warned resources would be scarce, so decisions on who should get drugs or vaccines should be made in advance.

kicker:

“We cannot expect to vaccinate more than 14% of the world’s population within a year of pandemic.”

May as well let FEMA do it.

We cannot expect to vaccinate more than 14% of the world’s population within a year of pandemic

I would expect most of the unvaccinated to be in the 3rd world. Their dictators won’t give them food, do you really expect them to get vaccine.

  2. tallwookie says:

as long as it covers the USA i dont really care (14% covers our 300mil)

USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA USA

#2 That’s fine with me. The rest of the world doesn’t like us anyway, so F’them.

North Korea, Al Queda, Bird Flu, Terrorists, Global Warming, Iran, School shootings, Meteors, WTF. Fear Fear Fear Fear.

#4 – I am not afraid of any of that stuff.

I do, however, shudder after reading posts #2 and #3.

    5. Might I add CHICKENS to the list?

Since most vaccines are produced outside the United States [not profitable enough, guys], what’s makes folks think it’s all going to end up here? As a nation, we had to go begging, hat in hand, last autumn just to get enough of the usual flu vaccine to begin to go around.

I can understand egregious behavior in an American. I guess ignorance goes with it.

  8. Mark says:

I got news for you, I wouldnt take a flu shot anyway. I never had a flu shot in my life until 3 years ago when I was living in the Caribbean, my wife talked me into it, she worked for the doctor (yes only one on this island). I had lived in the West Indies for 13 years, and I wasnt sick once in that period. My job didnt include contact with tourists, but 2 weeks after taking that shot, I wound up with dengue fever. I am sure it lowered my resistance enough to contract dengue. It took a full year to completely get over the effects. To this day I jump 5 feet when a mosquito lands on me.

#8 – Mark… we aren’t talking about flu shots as a preventative… I’m with you – I don’t take them either… But in this case, we are talking about vaccines for a Stephen King grade everybody dies virus, and if you had that bug, you would definately want the vaccine. 🙂

  10. Mark says:

    9. The last known pandemic I heard about is bird flu, of which there is no vaccine, but plenty of fearmongering. It was heralded I beleive as a 90% Stephen King like killer. True, if they had a cure or vaccine for a virus that had a 90% chance of mortality, I would probably take it, or maybe I would hole up in that cave for 6 months.

  11. OhForTheLoveOf says:

#10 – Given the likelihood that one of the unwashed masses, like me, is not on the short list to recieve a dose, I’ll be looking for a cave too.

  12. Smith says:

“We cannot expect to vaccinate more than 14% of the world’s population within a year of pandemic.”

And those that call the shots, get the shots.

  13. Tom says:

I like this blog i really do but you guys gotta start getting pictures that can better relate to the story.

  14. jason says:

    #12 – is absolutely right.

Look at the Oil situation… record profits for oil companies DURING A “WAR” IN THE MIDDLE EAST!

    Hmmmmmm…..
