Mr. Toast

Manning had been tasked with evaluating the arrest of 15 Iraqis rounded up by the Iraqi Federal Police for printing “anti Iraq” literature. “The Iraqi federal police wouldn’t cooperate with U.S. forces, so I was instructed to investigate the matter, find out who the ‘bad guys’ were, and how significant this was for the FPs,” he wrote.

But when Manning had the literature translated, he discovered it was a scholarly critique of Iraq Prime Minister Al-Maliki titled Where Did the Money Go?, he wrote. The document was nothing more than a “benign political critique … following the corruption trail within the PM’s cabinet.

“I immediately took that information and ran to the [U.S. Army] officer to explain what was going on. He didn’t want to hear any of it. He told me to shut up and explain how we could assist the FPs in finding MORE detainees.

All very interesting. The guy is toast. Regarding his earlier issues with a superior, he should have put everything in a memo form and passed it around first.

It’s my understanding that Manning wanted to turn over an extremely large number of classified State Department communications and the guy on the other end decided this is not what this web site is for.

A document or two suggesting/documenting corruption; yes even if they end up in court.

Something that might get you targeted for treason or something similar or get Americans killed; no think you.

    Hope he likes Kansas.

  3. N74JW says:

That is a picture of an idiot. I am not defending the U.S.’ actions in Iraq, but this clown was WAY out of line to release this information to the public. I hope the Military throws the entire UCMJ at this clown.

    Have fun in Leavenworth!

  4. Buzz says:

Son, when I give you a direct order to find this document to be treasonous, I don’t want to hear the truth! I can’t handle the truth, mister!

  5. Greg Allen says:

I didn’t think it was possible for anyone to make Americans hate creepy amoral hackers even more — but Adrian Lamo managed it.

  6. deowll says:

#5 I don’t think this guy was a hacker. I think he had the right passwords and clearances to see what he saw. The problem is he shouldn’t have.

  7. GregAllen says:

    deowll,

The leaker wasn’t a hacker. The snitch who betrayed him was a well known hacker.

  8. GregAllen says:

… oh, I meant to give a link to the snitch, Adrian Lamo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adrian_Lamo

  9. The guy leaking the documents is a hero of humanity and should receive something like the Nobel Peace Prize. Lamo is lame.

  10. sargasso_c says:

The same guy is rumored to have leaked the video of an apache attack helo mowing down unarmed Iraqi civilians and a Reuters news crew in Baghdad a few months ago. Remember that? You know, the one where they filmed the whole deal? Well. This is payback. The thing about the military, is that they have a long memory and they harbor a grudge. They will have had this guy in their sights for months, and unless he is a complete fool he would have known his ass was being checked out.

Why is it so hard to do the right thing in life?

Why do we feel pressured to do the wrong things?

Are people on powertrips, and are blinded by their lust?

Life is so simple: eat, poop, work, reproduce, rest and repeat. Yet we don’t seem to be able to do that consistently.

It always shocks me how badly things are run.

  12. BmoreBadBoy says:

All governments are corrupt. No exceptions.

  13. We're sick of it says:

Why is it so hard to do the right thing in life?

    Define “the right thing”.

Why do we feel pressured to do the wrong things?

    What you mean “we”, paleface?

Are people on powertrips, and are blinded by their lust?

What does lust have to do with powertrips?

Life is so simple: eat, poop, work, reproduce, rest and repeat. Yet we don’t seem to be able to do that consistently.

You’re thinking of something other than humans… sea monkeys perhaps. I hope I am never reduced to the bare functionality you describe; it would mean that I was brain dead.

It always shocks me how badly things are run.

  14. Improbus says:

Do you think we could fix it by publicly executing the people that fuck it up? I would like to buy season tickets to that.

  15. The Monster's Lawyer says:

    “What, me worry?”
