Miss Ellie, the beloved Chinese Crested hairless canine winner of the 2009 World’s Ugliest Dog Competition (pedigree division) at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Northern California, has died at the age of 17.
She appeared on The Animal Planet cable show “Dogs 101” that was broadcast internationally, was featured on Fox News, seen on billboards and a commercial, and was the star dog at The Comedy Barn Theater in Pigeon Forge.
Miss Ellie was rescued when she was 7 years old and brought to live with her owner, Dawn Goehring, and 13 other rescue dogs. In her final days Miss Ellie was continually working on raising awareness and money for rescue animals.
She was entered in the 2010 World’s Ugliest Dog contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, Calif., and had planned to travel to California next month to compete one more time for the Ugliest Dog title before her retirement.
Sorry, I thought we could use a little humor in all this doom and gloom.
wow, from the looks of this dog had already died 10 years ago. Zombie Dog dogopocolypse!
Nice dental work…is the dog British?
I think the dog is actually kind of cute as dogs go. Much nicer than a large dog. The pink bow makes her outfit.
For confused foreigners, this very ugly dog is highly valued by Americans for it’s uniqueness, which attributes it and it’s owners with “fame”. The uniquely American phenomena of “fame” needs further study.
Was 2009 the first year of that competition? That thing should have won all 15 years before that as well.
How would ya like to wake up with that little monster licking your face, wanting to be fed. –gag–
whoa I just watched ‘I Am Legend’ last night. That dog had to have been in that movie.
Sorry, I thought we could use a little humour in all this doom and gloom.
Hey! Your dog died! Ha! Ha! Ha!
I guess Pedro is now #1 !
My sister had a 17 year old mini dachshund. It was deaf, blinded by cataracts, and had about half her teeth. The poor old thing slept all the time, but still had her sense of smell. She would wake up when food was around and wobble in the right direction. Kept her appetite until two days before they put her down for cancer.
WRONG PICTURE! That’s a picture of Sam, the ugliest dog from 2003-2005 (and possibly ever). He died in Nov 2005.
Yup, Confirmed. WRONG PIC.
And here I was thinking the Crypt Keeper now has a new best friend.
Name of this breed and its history is typical of the Orwellian information culture we live in. Original (and properly translated) name of the breed is Chinese Edible Dog. For a reason, which have conspicuously disappeared from the info-base about these dogs: they were bred to be eaten, not to be pets or guards. Hence the characteristics – size, no hair, no foul-smelling glands, genetic mutations not useful for anything that are present (as there was no need to remove them for the purpose),…
All this is known but meticulously erased from breed histories and standards, on and off-line. Good symbol of the world in which we live today.
No wonder she died… get a load of her nurse:
Oh yeah… and this is Miss Ellie:
And continuing the theme of bizarre nature, Saturday is Dead Duck Day! – via. Boing Boing ☛ http://preview.tinyurl.com/2czjgc9
I knew the picture was incorrect when I posted it..but it was about humour and the real Miss Ellie, whilst ugly, is nowhere near AS ugly and thereby, was passed over.
I will be happy when this picture is no longer on the front page.
there is always humor in death. you should visit aushwitz, hysterical!
That dog was bred to be EATEN???
No wonder the Chinese are always starving…
Chupacabra
need I say the most obvious thing of all? If it weren’t already dead; KILL IT WITH FIRE!
