I don’t like the idea of giving money to charity only to have it skimmed off by the wealthy. If there aren’t at least a few front end loaders clearing streets then something is way wrong. Of course it does seem like the tent cities did finally show up but as might be expected they were poorly located for the rainy season.

One idea I saw in action a few years back is a plastic corrugated cardboard one room structure that could be shipped flat and then folded together with hold fasts. The material had some insulation value and was weather proof. I think it was at least somewhat translucent.

You needed a bit of a foundation but that was about it and I think the thing could last for a few years. The weight of people and property on the floor would normally be enough to hold it in place but I suppose it would need more than that in a hurricane.
