LA Weekly reports:

Condoms, porn and safe sex come to the heart of Orange County Thursday as the state’s Department Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) holds a Standards Board meeting that will hear arguments for mandating condoms on the sets of adult film shoots in California.

In other words, AHF wants the state (and the county of L.A., for that matter) to require condoms in porn so that actors don’t contract HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. While the county has been resistant to the idea, the state here is leaving the door ajar to the possibility.

Porn industry insiders, however, argue that such a requirement would simply push the industry further underground — and into other states and countries. Porn’s own voluntary system of asking working actors to be tested regularly and have on-set current test results has flaws but mostly works.

The government is for people who want to tell others what to do, and can throw them in jail when they don’t obey.

The government is for people who need protection from oppressive employment conditions, and can throw life threatening employers in jail when they don’t obey.

  3. Steve S says:

If this passes it will be just one of 700-1000 new (or revised) laws passed each year in the state of California. Some group of people in Sacramento (who shall remain nameless but have a current approval rating of 13%) have waaaay too much time on their hands.

  4. savage says:

This will be the end of the californian porn industry. As long as it is not a federal law they will switch to other places like Miami or so.

I don’t watch porn. Will it really make a difference?

Who’s really getting fuct here? us.

  10. laxdude says:

I have heard porn people in the past say that this will just drive the industry out of the US to less regulated countries like Canada and unregulated countries Europe.

  11. chuck says:

Also, any movies which depict car chases, shooting and drug use should be made illegal since all those activities are illegal.

  12. Most likely we will lose another industry, but what can be done when HIV is making its way into said industry. The testing procedures are flawed.

    And this affects me…..HOW?

  14. Uncle Patso says:

Sounds like a good idea to me. The way people will, by and large, screw anything that moves has led us to the current situation: wear a rubber or die slowly, expensively, painfully, horribly.

So they are regulating sexual behavior. Or is this because they don’t like the message being spread?

for a state that is almost bankrupt the last thing it should to do is drive out it’s second largest film revenue…

The displays of California’s ineptness to govern rationally are boundless. Former hall monitors = current politicians.

Damn! So, they are going to drive off the only industry their graduates are qualified for?

I wanna know why viewers would be offended by condoms in porn. How does it ruin the viewing experience? Because they might not be making a baby?
