I’m amazed that for two shows in a row, you guys haven’t mentioned that the only reason why Kimberly Guilfoyle is on FOX is because her ex husband, Gavin Newsom, tossed her ass out.

@ #5 The Attack on Pearl Harbor, 1941, The US Administration of FDR sought to involve America in World War II. But the American people wanted to stay out of it. So the Administration provoked Japan, in the hope that they would attack the U.S. The plan worked, and FDR made sure that the attacks took place successfully and had the maximum effect and impact. Believing that it was a surprise and unprovoked attack by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor, Americans now supported U.S. entry into the war.
hey, it is possible. look at 9/11! 😀
I’m with #5 on this one…
I’ll have to call bullshit on there being more out there on the Pacific Theater compared to the European Theater in WWII. Just look at the hours of shows you can find in a given month on Hitler, the Third Reich, D-Day, The Eastern Front, advanced Nazi war technologies, ect.
You only get a fraction of that for the Pacific and even then the majority of it is played during December as to coincide with the anniversary of Pearl Harbor. There have been a few films in the past decade about the theater but you never really see the same quality of story telling about the Battle of Tarawa, Okinawa, Saipan, or the Philippines. You will get the specials on Pearl Harbor, Midway, and the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki but a lot of the details about the island hopping campaign are themselves passed over. I can’t see a downside to having a production similar to Band of Brothers focused on the Pacific War.
A lot of Americans are so focused on our involvement (and as some would say, limited involvement) in the European Theater that we forget the four long years that we spent fighting our way across the Pacific towards Japan and all the thousands of historical events that were just as critical to the history of the United States and the shaping of modern Asia that took place then.
To put it all off as just a way of “Telling Japan to take our debt and like it, bitch!” is just short sighted and reeks of confirmation bias. It also speaks volumes to the lack of knowledge about the status of Japanese investment in the US. Japan was the number one foreign holder of US in 2007 and China only surpassed them in December of 2008. Historically from December 2008 to January 2000 (as far as I felt like looking back to do Adam and John’s research for them at no charge. All it took was a simple search at the Treasury Department’s website…) Japan had been the major holder of US treasuries.
