The U.S. Court of Appeals on Wednesday released a ruling in favor of a group of zombies who say they were wrongfully arrested while protesting consumerism during the 2006 Aquatennial. The ruling reanimates the group’s federal lawsuit against the city of Minneapolis and its police, seeking damages of at least $50,000 for each person arrested.
A three-judge panel of the court ruled 2-1 that police lacked probable cause to arrest the group — seven people wearing white powder, fake blood and black around their eyes and shuffling around like zombies — for disorderly conduct. Police do not have immunity from claims against them for making the arrest, the court ruled.
The appeals court did side with the city on two other points — affirming the lower court’s dismissal of the zombies’ claims of false imprisonment and First Amendment retaliation.
Zombies 1 – Cops 0
A YouTube video of “Zombie Jamboree” by the Kingston Trio might be appropriate.
I, for one, welcome our evil zombie overlords
Even though a Zombie Supporter, isn’t the score Zombie-1, Cops-2? Or did I misread the article?
I think a false arrest without malice should warrant an award of time missed from work. Zombies alas don’t make that much and therefore are easy arrest targets===although that raises the issue of Malice in the right case.
First they came for the Zombies and I didn’t do anything even though I wasn’t dead.
If el-copo would have remembered rule#3 he wouldnt have this problem now. Double tap man!
Why $50,000? With mildly straining safety budgets as-is, that doesn’t seem to do any good here.
Remember that safety budgets also include fire and medical, not just police.

The zombies had three shots on goal but only one hit the back of the net 🙂
“The ruling reanimates the group’s federal lawsuit against the city of Minneapolis”
Ha!…reanimates. Creative.
Punishments in court need to go old school and involve being fired.
Monetary damages handed out by governments, schools and such is wasting OUR money.
A government pays out $50,000 per protestor and where does that government get the $50,000. That’s foolish.
The real penalty should be someone losing their job.
#7–honeyman==well done. I see your approach, still – – in your construct, only the Zombies can score points?
In such a case, isn’t it misleading to “score” the event as if the cops could score anything?
I guess they will get their “turn at bat” on the next arrest?
Zombies in court. The brain dead. Don’t we have enough lawyers?
I thought the correct way to take of zombies was “two to the head.” 🙂
#11. Yes, at least that’s the way it is in “Zombieland”.
I plan to rely on the good old shovel come the zombie apocalypse.
“you gotta shoot em in the head”
Zombies protest consumerism, yet all they want to do is consume your brains…?
I have a two handed old highlander style claymore in the corner. Maybe that would get the job done. I used metal polish on the blade then car polish but it’s still sharp.
To be fair I kind of think somebody with more rank than the cops making the arrest decided if arrests were to be made and that person should be held to account.
For confused foreigners, these are not actual re-animated dead people (called, zombies) brought about by witchcraft. They are young people who are playfully engaged in passive civil disobedience, who like to wear strange costumes in public. This is unusual behaviour.
I love this country!
Sounds like inspiration for a George Romero flick. I especially love those scenes where the police try to control the situation with their guns and end up getting torn to shreds and eaten.
