Vice President Biden’s motorcade was involved in an accident Sunday afternoon in Vancouver, where he has been over the weekend as the leader of the U.S. delegation at the winter Olympics.

Two members of the U.S. delegation – Peggy Flemming, the gold medal-winning ice skater, and Vonetta Flowers, a gold medalist in women’s bobsledding – were taken to a local hospital as a precaution, according to a statement from Biden spokesman Jay Carney.

“They were both evaluated and have since been released,” he said. “Neither the Vice President nor anyone else in his party was involved in the incident.”

The incident marks the fourth time Biden’s security detail has been involved in an accident. The other three took place in November. A car in Biden’s motorcade hit a sheriff’s deputy in New Mexico. The vice president’s advance security detail hit a cab in New York City. And while he was not in it, a vehicle in Biden’s motorcade killed a pedestrian in Maryland. Temple Hills, MD.

Doh!

    A metaphor, no doubt.

  2. Red says:

Someone must be, TRYING TO KILL JOE BIDEN. But who?

  3. Sigma says:

I thought he preferred train travel?

  4. dadeo says:

He obviously needs to get rails installed for his car..

  5. ManBearPig says:

Mr. Biden, no more sitting in the chair with the round steery-thingy and the vroom-vroom pedal, just sit in the back and watch the nickelodeon DVDs that President Bush left for you… good boy!

  6. sargasso says:

I seriously doubt that the VP actually drives, the limousine.

  7. ECA says:

Is this like saying “a gun shot someone”??

    WHO WAS DRIVING??
Does 1 car make a Motorcade??

  8. SparkyOne says:

Dad, we keep telling you that you can not drive with dementia, you can help run the country, but no more car keys.

  9. RTaylor says:

I bet those armored vehicles are a bitch to drive. Heavy as hell to brake, and they have to be a might underpowered. You can only jam so much engine under the hood.

  10. nathaniel says:

Well, for 7 years the VP motorcade has just been taking Dick Cheney back and forth to his secret place, so they clearly have forgotten how to drive in public…

  11. Phydeau says:

    #10 nathaniel FTW! 😀

  12. angry says:

    Funny…I thought he didn’t drink…

  13. Dallas says:

    #10 You win.

#13 Pedrito, you need new material. I’m starting to feel sorry for you. I’ll try to think of something you can use.

  14. JScott says:

You will probably see a guy who looks a lot like Samuel L. Jackson walking rapidly with a cane in the opposite direction. Maybe he’s looking for something…

  15. jbellies says:

Maybe one of the drivers is left-handed. Secret Service had trouble throughout the term of the first left-handed prez of the 20th century, Gerald Ford. They had it down OK for the subsequent ones, Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama. Left-handers have an opposite “startle response” from right-handers.

    #15 That’s easy. They’re both wrong.

  16. SparkyOne says:

while on the subject of lame VP(s) where the fuck is Al AGW Gore hiding?

  17. Dallas says:

#19 Pedrito, what are you celebrating about? You are wrong again but this time you have company? Always wrong is nothing to be proud of – with or without company.

  18. Greg Allen says:

In college I drove a hearse in funeral motorcades and I’m a little surprised there aren’t more accidents with motorcades.

Even with the police escort, other drivers need to be head’s up.

  19. Bob West says:

    Where was Dick Cheney?

  20. MikeN says:

When you have someone whose primary experience is riding a train, then you should expect car accidents.

  21. Rick Cain says:

Its hard to make this political, but it is kinda funny.

  22. polybot says:

They should send Biden’s Motorcade to join the fight in Afghanistan, seems very effective.

  23. Ah_Yea says:

    Eric #18.

    Now that was Funny!!

  24. Mr. Fusion says:

Out of necessity, most high ranking motorcades have a sense of arrogance to them. Everyone had better get out of the way or else. That usually works when you have 2,500 local cops keeping the plebeians back. Not so good in another country when the police are stretched thin and concerned with other matters.

  25. Phydeau says:

#19 Now, the sheeple will color us Repukes and go on a denial rampage.

We color you “Repukes” because you only criticize Democrats. Oh, and you criticize Dubya too. Wow, what a stretch. Everyone is criticizing Dubya now, even the people who worshiped him most fervently.

You want to appear bipartisan, criticize Republican senator Richard Shelby for putting a blanket hold on over 70 of Obama’s nominees just because his home state isn’t getting enough pork.

Go ahead, little pedro. Give it a shot. Try to pretend more convincingly. 🙂

  26. Phydeau says:

What a surprise… no response from little pedro. 🙂

  27. Dallas says:

#32 That’s because Pedro has used up his per post allotment of “Sheeple” responses.

  28. Phydeau says:

If only you knew how idiotic you look, little pedro. 🙂
