And how long to render the movie…
That in hi-def would make a great demo.
ECA, this was done in realtime. It’s a video game
( http://www.trackmaniasunrise.com/indexUk.php )
that was set up to do this. There’s a whole film genre called Machinima which uses PC video games and game engines to create movies. Some are simply amazing and getting better all the time as computers get faster and game engines get better.
That was awesome
Wow, their collision detection is really shitty.
Here’s another one. The project 3K video. Not the same quality but 3x the quantity.

I am not sure why everybody seems so impressed by this video. I don’t see anything all that impressive. If I saw some collision detection per car like sdf pointed out then maybe I would be a little impressed. 100 polygons per car with normal mapping is 100,000 polygons NOT IMPRESSED!
If you want to see what a little group of people can do with a game engine that is impressive go look at the guys at project offset. They create impressive work. I am certain everyone will know there name soon.

Not one of ’em sustained any damage from all those collisions. As a character put it in one of the better web comics (about mad scientist Helen Narbon), “I gotta get out of here before it gets any stupider.” On the other hand, the part at the end where they all listened to their Inner Lemming was kind of charming.
The Trackmania games don’t have collision physics (with other cars). The point of the game is to get your car from the starting line to the finish line as fast as you can. People have griped about no car collsions since the first Trackmania came out, but it’s just not part of the game. Play it for what it’s worth and you’ll have a blast. There are playable demos for the game, plus a free version called Trackmania Nations.
’nuff said.

#7: No one’s impressed with the quality of the rendering, etc. It’s just that it’s funny.
And Project Offset looks amazing! Can’t find where they say it will be finished.
Uncle Dave
I guess I missed the humor. 🙂 I thought it was some kind of technology demonstration. I know there is a lot of buzz about this video floating around I just don’t understand. I never was all that crazy about racing games. Perhaps that’s why I don’t get it.:)
Project Offset
They started as 3 guys in an apartment and that is what they came up with . Now I think they have like 20 – 25 people working Believe it or not they had trouble getting investment money so they did it in their spare time.
I think they are hard at work. They are creating a game engine as well as a game at the same time. Very time consuming. They finally have a publisher for there game and knowing game publishing companies they are probably telling them to keep their mouth shut about a release date because they like to control that.
So, how is it created? Does someone drive the course 1000 times, save all the replays, and play them all back at once?
Very, cool!
Clap 3 times, spin around and say the person you want to be with forever, post this on 7 pages. On this Saturday that person will realize how much you mean to them… you don’t do this… that person will think the opposite and never want to see your face again! It worked for me, just try!!!
