Think you might get lucky tonight? Well, if you’re in D.C., don’t bring more than two condoms in your purse, or you could be arrested as a prostitute.
In D.C., police can declare “Prostitution Free Zones” where officers can pick up (I mean, arrest) anyone suspected of sex work. And they’ve been accused of using carrying three or more condoms as proof of intent to sell sex — rather than intent to spend the weekend getting jiggy with a guy.
But as RH Reality Check points out, the real danger of this law falls to people who actually are sex workers. It pushes them to abandon safe sex techniques, putting their own health at risk as well as that of the general population. Add to this the fear of arrest or harassment that keeps sex workers from seeking health care, and you have a recipe for disaster.
Of course this law is stupid. We have lots of stupid laws designed to make people sick while allowing politicians claim they are serving the public. I consider the current health care bills to fall into that category.

This basically means police can arrest any woman in a designated “Prostitution Free Zone” rummage through her belongings for any reason they deem fit. How does the average visitor to dc know where a “PFZ” is? Are these designated ahead of time? By whom? Can a cop just designate one on the fly?
Amen to Walker Boh. All victimless crimes need to be taken off the law books. Maybe then the police could concentrate on helping keep the peace instead of mindlessly enforcing the law and looking for ways to collect revenue for the state. And all this intent stuff needs to be thrown out the window. Cops carry guns all day, does that mean they have the intent to kill someone? Arrest them all!
Just stop with the laws about magic and superstition. You should be allowed to sell sex. If someone wants to pay your $5 for a bj, or $10 to help them move boxes of records, who cares. If YOUR body, your choice, again, like the “Drug War”(tm), the criminal side (pimps) comes into this BECAUSE it’s illegal. But the idiots in the world thinking making it super duper really ultra illegal will make it better. Never has in history. Just makes it worse.
