No joke — I was worried about this:

Fans of the television show “Lost,” have no fear. The White House does not plan to schedule President Obama’s first State of the Union address on the same night as the premiere of the popular ABC series.

“I don’t foresee a scenario in which millions of people that would hope to finally get some conclusion in ‘Lost’ are preempted by the president,” Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday.

The season premiere of “Lost” is currently scheduled for Feb. 2. Gibbs said the White House will “soon” announce the date for the State of the Union address.

  1. Jetfire says:

And you wonder why we have the elected officials we do? People are more worried about a TV show that has no impact on their real life.

All aboard the train wreck to Hell

  2. KMFIX says:

I thought that show was over.

  3. TruthBeKnown says:

    Wow….two bulls**t programs. I wouldn’t have watched either one.

  4. Dallas says:

Really? Are you implying the sheep would rather watch “Lost” than listen to the State of our Union update?

  5. hazza says:

Oh for fucks sake, this shitty fucking show is still on? Christ almighty, how do you keep an idiot in suspense? They watch Lost.

  6. Zybch says:

People still watch that dreck (Lost I mean, thought the SotN is a close second).

  7. Greg Allen says:

This claim of “Liberal Media” is pure crap.

  8. MikeN says:

The other date cuts out American Idol.
Both of those shows are more important than State of the Union address/campaign speech.

More importantly, I’m getting sick of shows doing that picture.

  9. Mr. Fusion says:

    Cherman/pedro is lost without Lost.

  10. deowll says:

Why don’t they just post the state of the Union on Twitter? I don’t think it takes that many words to say, “Things bleep.” See there I’ve already written Obama’s speech for him.

Okay, yeah know he’s going to spend an hour or so trying to obfuscate the obvious and make bleep sound like paradise. They’ll most likely stick a copy on the $18,000,000 government web site and you can skim it in 15 minutes or less in case he actually says something.

I need to be fair here. He has said an awful lot and while I don’t think he has to be locked to previous positions he now has as much cred with me as Al Gore. Anyone that would say the Ponzi scheme health care bill is going to reduce the deficit will say anything.

I don’t care if Lost gets lost. I watched a few episodes and decided this program does not compute and departed.

I haven’t watched the State of the Union in 10 years. Instead I read the transcript the next day (might be longer. Can’t remember when I last watched it). It avoids watching bozos get up and clap every five minutes and the cameras focusing the group that isn’t getting up and clapping. Further, it takes the emotion out of the speech making it easier to see what is being said.

  12. Dallas says:

#10. I watch all of them as I’m a visual person. I find visual cues, expressions, pauses and tones to be insightful. To listen to a good speaker as pres obama is also a phenomenal thing.
On itunes you can listen to great speeches. You’re missing out.

Also, the republicans now are shouting “you lie” and who knows what their encore is. The sheep need to be entertained so you might want to reconsider.

  13. Uncle Patso says:

    Oh, Thank Goodness!

  14. Charlotte says:

I think the phrase “hope to finally get some conclusion in ‘Lost’” is amusing. I gave up hope seasons ago. 😉

  15. Greg Allen says:

    Thomas and Dallas,

What you guys are saying is interesting to me… I prefer the State of the Union on radio.

I find the TV visuals distracting to the content and reading the text is lacklustre.

I guess it’s all a matter of personal learning style.

  16. Thomas says:

    #15, #12
It is definitely a difference in learning. Personally, I can read the transcript orders of magnitude faster than I can listen or watch and I’m generally a pretty busy guy. In fact, I wish John would provide transcripts for his No Agenda stuff because I simply do not have an hour to kill listening to him and Curry yuck it up. But, on occasion they do say something of interest. Thus the reason for the transcript. In addition, I find the speaker’s party clapping like circus seals (probably from practicing other circus seal-like positions) to be distracting.

  17. Improbus says:

I rather watch an entertaining program than the bullshitter in chief. Of course, I also thought getting rid of the Chimperor would make a difference too.

  18. Postman says:

Well I already know what is going to happen in the sotu address. He is going to claim everything is all pink ponies when really things seem to be double deuce.

Lost on the otherhand, I have no idea what is going to happen.

  19. Dallas says:

#14 Actually, you have an excellent point. Radio is probably the best medium. I listen to speeches all the time on my iPOD.

ITunes has a universe of great speeches and speakers on a huge array of topics.

If you are into science and history, listen to “A short history of nearly everything”. That is about the best audio book ever created.

If you’re religious, it may not be for you because it’s non-fiction.

  20. MikeN says:

#16, when you read, do you read it as if Obama is saying it?

  21. LOWER CASE SCREEN NAME says:

Lost is a good show. You have to work at it and really pay attention. The ending is going to be really interesting.

State of the Union Summary: “It’s all George Bush’s Fault. Good Night.”

  22. Thomas says:

    #20
Heh. I don’t read via a voice dictating to me so no I do not “hear” Obama’s voice when I read the transcript. However, I clearly analyze it given the person that is making the speech.

  23. hazza says:

#17 So you don’t watch Lost either?

  24. Glenn E. says:

I still remember how Bush I’s brief heart flutter, interrupted primetime Tv for no damn good reason. So I missed the second half of a “The Flash” episode. Until it was rerun, years later. The thing is, they chimed in with the news, hours after Bush had been taken to the hospital for a checkup. By which time, he was probably fine. Trying to put up too much of a show, about being physically fit. Notice that US Presidents don’t jog as much as they use to.

But apparently the multi-million dollar price tag of present day Tv network series, makes them too costly to be shoved aside for every political speech. Or Democrats just don’t rate, with the Tv networks. Seeing as how many stations are owned by Republican supporters.
