A seven-member family faces eviction from an east Berlin apartment tower after neighbors complained about loud prayer sessions that keep the whole building awake at night, a German newspaper said Thursday.
“I really don’t want to disturb the neighbors but the high volume is needed in the battle against the devil,” Pierre D., the 42-year-old father of the Christian family, told Bild newspaper. He is fighting an eviction order in court.
Neighbors told Bild the screams and singing that are part of the family prayers in the second storey sometimes begin at 2:30 a.m. and can be heard all the way up to the fifth floor.
“We have to work in the morning and need our sleep,” said taxi driver Horst Berghahn, who lives on the third floor. He said he asked the family to lower the volume several times since they moved into the building 10 months ago but to no avail.
Phew! Isn’t it amazing what you have to do to get Satan’s attention?
Screaming at the Devil will deter him away. Wow, this is a wonderful revolation. Good thing they are being tossed out ’cause there are other people in this world.
In some countries you get woken up early morning AND late at night! It is absurd in some places.
During Ramadan, guys with drumbs go marching around the city a couple of hours before sunrise to wake people up for their last meal! In the summer it can be incredibly early.
I read a report recently about how chaos can increase your longevity and prolong your mental alertness. I even read about a Japanese designer who built a house where every room was uneven, light switches were in weird places, the colors were random, etc., almost like a circus funhouse for everyday living, just because he believed that navigating an unintiutive home every day was more stimulating and lead to healthier living.
Maybe I should join one of these crank religions on the same theory. Bizarre shouting rituals in the middle of the night. The hour of the wolf drum march GredAllen mentioned. Snake handling. All the kookball crap thiests do, might actually be annoying enough to increase my life expectancy.
At least its something to consider.
I doubt there would be a problem if they did it at a reasonable hour.
Or maybe if they got a place with some privacy. Germany is a big place; move to the country and do whatever you want!
i guess it just goes to show, as hard as people try to put people in boxes: Christian, Jew, Muslim, etc… the individuals in those boxes are still doing their own thing…
