All over the news here in Vegas all day. Guy who lost a lawsuit earlier this year over Social Security benefit cuts went into the Federal Courthouse and opened fire killing a former cop and injuring a deputy U.S. marshal. At least 50 shots fired between him and police as he crossed Las Vegas Blvd. before being killed.

A man who opened fire at a court in Las Vegas – killing one man and wounding another – had been upset about cuts to his social security benefits.

Officials said Johnny Lee Wicks, 66, was killed in a shootout with officers soon after 8am (local time) on Monday.

Court records show Wicks sued the Social Security Administration in 2008 but the case was thrown out and formally closed in September 2009.

Watching the local news at 6pm, many people they’ve interviewed say this sort of thing may happen more in the future around the country as Social Security benefits are cut.

    How is that CES going?

is there any Yemeni connection here ?

  3. Uncle Dave says:

    #1: Doesn’t start until Thursday

  4. dannythedog says:

Anything in this video, besides some guy walking and shots in the background?

  5. Gary, the dangerous infidel says:

This is all Obama’s fault. His election frightened a lot of people into loading up on guns and ammo, and now those weapons are just lying around in drawers and closets, begging to be used. Some people just hear the begging more clearly than others.

  6. M says:

I know the guard who was killed, he was a nice guy. Its easy to say the government sucks, but to take it out on a retired cop just trying to earn a few extra bucks is stupid.

  7. amodedoma says:

Hopefully it’s just an isolated incident. Lot’s of desperate people just waiting to freak out. I see them all the time, ticking time bombs of fear and desperation.

  8. David says:

What are we supposed to be looking at in the video, exactly? All I see is one person walking leisurely in front of the building.

  9. Awake says:

10x odds that the guy that did the shooting was a ‘conservative’ and NRA member that was unhappy because the government was taking away his undeserved disability claim.

  10. sargasso says:

#6. my thoughts are with the families of the fallen. I apologize if my flippant reposte offended. Sincerest regards. S.

  11. Ah_Yea says:

Awake, you never fail to show the bigoted, stupid, hate-filled smallness you call a life.

You never miss an opportunity to spew the toxins of a rancid persona.

The killer, Johnny Lee Wicks, was a sick, deranged person.

“Law enforcement sources said Wicks’ failed federal lawsuit — an erratic document riddled with spelling and grammatical errors — was a likely motive.
In 2008, Wicks, who had moved from California to a local retirement home, filed a complaint against a regional Social Security Administration commissioner, contending that his monthly benefits had been reduced by $317 because he was black.
“It’s all about race,” he wrote in the complaint, although he cited no evidence. “I am no fool.”
A lawyer for the Social Security Administration responded in court documents that Wicks’ payments had been cut because, as a Nevada resident, he was no longer entitled to a supplement he had received while living in California.”

You know something about having a sick, angry mind, don’t you?
This is for you, Awake. Understanding is half the battle:

Sad story, pointless video. Better off with just audio.

  13. It’s not Obama’s fault any more than it’s George Washington’s fault PALEEZE get a friggin grip. This is an isolated incident. Some people don’t get ANY benefits, they are turned down and left to rot. They do their best to stay alive and never shoot anyone. That’s probably 99.99999999% of the public who gets turned down. Fortunately many people get through that disaster of the federal security system social nightmare by help from relatives and others. Making fun of the guy’s spelling errors is stupid, and it is that very attitude that can set someone off like this. This may be a good reason for national health care reform though. I mean what if benefits didn’t change from state to state, there wouldn’t have been the confusion that led to that event maybe?

  14. RTaylor says:

Who stands around with a damn phone camera while shots are being fired?

  15. Angry says:

#9 You are anything but “awake” with your pointless drivel. If it helps you to sleep better knowing it was some right winger…sure, why not? Dumbass.

  16. Dr Dodd says:

The government promises what it can’t deliver so expect this type of retaliation to increase as the frustration level increases.

Why is it always the innocent who must suffer instead of the politicians who cause the problem?

  17. Such a sad story 🙁

  18. the haunted sheep says:

Well #11, #6 is obviously your typical, hateful california liberal. They are mean spirited people who have all the answers. They don’t believe in america or the constitution.

  19. deowll says:

I’m guessing the guy with the phone was under thirty and it didn’t occur to him to step behind a post.

The actions of a person who had been told they are entitled to something they really need and then having it taken away from them may well be extreme anger.

  20. Erica says:

What made this video relevant to the post? I only saw a guy just walking by like nothing happens. Anyways, the story is quite unfortunate for that guy who died.
