A flock of pigeons, outfitted with designer cell phone backpacks, will take to the sky over Silicon Valley this week.

The birds will be equipped with sensors that collect pollution data, which will be continually relayed to a blog at www.pigeonblog.mapyourcity.net. The flights will occur at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and Saturday.

The blogging birds are part of “ZeroOne San Jose: A Global Festival of Art on the Edge,” a seven-day extravaganza for art techies that begins Monday throughout downtown San Jose. About 150 artists will participate. There will be light shows and interactive art — and birds that will give a glimpse of the pollution hovering over the valley, such as carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide.

Of course, cute little science/art backpack or not, be careful of where you stand — and what might fall on you — whilst peering skyward to watch these pigeons at work.

This is why I have little respect for Abstract/modern/concept art.

I’m sorry….I have been laughing my arse off since I first heard about this.
In San Jose the birds won’t last until 1 p.m…..they will downed, and cleaned and waiting to be pan fried for the evening meal by homeless and immigrants.

Oh…the cell phones will be available on the black market at the flea market the next day.
