A minor earthquake that was centered under the Auburn area Wednesday night was felt as far away as Missouri, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The USGS reported the 3.5 magnitude earthquake just before 9 p.m.

Minor damage was reported, including plaster damage to buildings and cracks in house foundations. No injuries have been reported.

Viewers reported feeling the quake in Brock, Tecumseh, and Hamburg, Iowa, in addition to Auburn and Peru. The Nemaha County Sheriff’s Department said the quake was felt all over the county.

The earthquake was felt in four states and as far away as Blue Springs, Mo., 207 miles away, and Hastings, Neb.

Looks like it was a New Madrid shift from the area affected.

Clearly, God is not happy about Nebraska’s ban on gay marriage. No earthquake felt in Iowa.

  3. Curtis E. Flush says:

    3.5? That’s no earthquake!

  4. Floyd says:

Call us when the quake’s a 5.0, unless the 3.5 can be traced to the New Madrid fault. Then it’s time to get concerned.

More about the New Madrid fault here, which is supposedly quiet.

USGS has more about quakes, if you want to dig a bit.

  7. ArianeB says:

Yeah 3.5 is more of a “ride” than an earthquake.

Maybe the pressure is building under the midwest, maybe Yellowstone is getting ready to awaken. Now that would be cataclysmic!

Yes. Of course. Remember “The Day After Tomorrow”?Yellowstone blows up and the whole country is covered with ice and snow? Hell freezes over. That would be GREAT! We would finally be done with Fat Albert and his sycophants.

    Breaking News!

An International Panel on anthropogenic Plate Change (IPPC) has engaged 2000 health care scientists, who have already submitted proposals for studies to prove that overweight Americans are causing earthquakes. Canadians are suspicious as the tips of glaciers in the Arctic have been shearing off more frequently around 6:00 PM… just as Americans sit down to dinner. Closer to home, Nebraska experienced a quake of 3.5 magnitude around 9 PM, when Americans sat down to watch TV. One Nebraskan suggested the quake was mild due to couches. The IPPC will be issuing dire warnings to the UN, just as soon as scientists submit their findings.

    3.5 = a train going by.

Name me a place in the world that hasn’t had a 3.5

    [Uh… Florida. – ed.]

  17. Mark T. says:

OMG! Then it makes perfect sense for the Dems to close the SAC base in Nebraska! But it will have absolutely nothing to do with Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson failing to sign on to the Senate’s version of Obamacare. Perish the thought.

We get these tiny magnitude 2-3 earthquakes now and then down in Oklahoma.
