In a tizzy over news that Eggo waffles will be in short supply nationwide through mid-2010, lazy breakfasters have begun hoarding and protesting. “What will America run on?” says Hamilton Nolan at Gawker. “America doesn’t run on Dunkin…To remove Eggos from our morning routine…threatens the American Morning.” Kelloggs cites factory difficulties to explain the sudden dearth of toaster-ready waffles, but conspiracy theories abound. What’s behind the shortage?
Read the article to find out. Personally, I think it’s space aliens who can’t get Eggos on their planet. Of course, there’s the terrorist angle to consider. Or it really was a shortage of the eggs that go into Eggos because they were needed to make the swine flu vaccine. Or…
If it had not been for the news media hype surrounding this, I would have just assumed they stopped making these because of lack of popularity. I don’t think I have ever had one.
Like the dollar they shrank to nada.
Safeway waffles are the same thing. I am sure my kid will survive just fine.
Oh Noes! Good grief … just make waffles from scratch … they are so much better. Slow down and cook your food and then eat it with your family with the TV turned off.
I buy them 60 at a time, so I’m in the clear.
Shortage of Eggos, and how is this a bad thing?
What will we use to cushion packages and prop up wobbly tables?
This might be worse for the company than they think. It might force people to relearn how to make real waffles. Then they’ll discover that waffles take about as long as Eggos to make, are way cheaper, and taste better.
Manipulating the supply so they can jack up the prices.
Again? This was news a month ago, and now “The Week” is reporting it as new news?
Make your own waffles. After eating eggo for years, I’ve come to the conclusion they are awful.
We like Kashi better anyway, even if they are now owned by Kellogg as well. Need to find a good low-glycemic home recipe and find the waffle iron…
I have never knowingly eaten an Eggo. I grew up eating waffles made on a waffle iron. Those taste great.
