“We Are All Connected” was made from sampling Carl Sagan’s Cosmos, The History Channel’s Universe series, Richard Feynman’s 1983 interviews, Neil deGrasse Tyson’s cosmic sermon, and Bill Nye’s Eyes of Nye Series, plus added visuals from The Elegant Universe (NOVA), Stephen Hawking’s Universe, Cosmos, the Powers of 10, and more. It is a tribute to great minds of science, intended to spread scientific knowledge and philosophy through the medium of music.

  1. bobbo, in an existential universe says:

“We are all connected” is as true as it is meaningless==just like music.

Good thing we can believe whatever we want to.

  2. Mister Mustard says:

This is as stupid as it is old.

  3. RBG says:

Yes, stupid like you, and everything you can see – and not see – in space was once squished into a space smaller than a grain of sand.

    RBG

  4. Mick Hamblen says:

    Read Dangerous Minds
    post on DU
    How about something new?

  5. Brents0 says:

Only someone without a passion for science and learning the mysteries of the universe would find this stupid.

  6. Breetai says:

    WOW That’s just plain brilliant

  7. Speck This! says:

I hate when these self righteous science freaks say “we are all specks” and “we are all one”, a direct contradiction, and then the music freaks that think music is the “universal language” boast of how their ones and zeros are all connected making everything in the world perfect.

  8. Jägermeister says:

    Slow day?

Good clip, though. Love the music. 🙂

    #2 – Mister Mustard

    Yo Mustardo! 🙂

  9. Floyd says:

#7: While you have the right to think otherwise, we really are built of “star stuff” created by fusions of supernovae. The proof is the presence of elements as heavy or heavier than iron. The supernovae created (among other heavy elements) gold, lead, natural radium, uranium and other heavy elements found on Earth.

And by the way, what’s your problem with music? You must be tone deaf or something…

  10. Zybch says:

Can we please stop it with these fucking AutoTune ‘mashups’.

  11. Schleprock says:

I want to know what Sarah Palin thinks about this. I’ll reserve judgement until she tells me what to think.

  12. Animby says:

DU moderators ought to be required to read the damned blog. We had this posted here only a month or so ago…

  13. ECA says:

    12,
this video has been posted at LEAST 2 times before, with different articles..
    This only makes it worse.

IF you want to know, its a Technique thats being used thats INTERESTING. its a software program that can MAKE anyone SING..

  14. Travis says:

I would of watched this whole video if there wasn’t shitty autotuning over the words.

  15. Stinker says:

Well I guess the ‘science as a religion’ crowd has a hymn.

    🙂

  16. soundwash says:

well that’s some rather interesting synchronicity..i’ve been yakking about how *everything* let alone us..are all connected for some time now..

even as recent as yesterday.. in the global warming email hoax thread..

::sigh:: Nice to see the majority of the DU posters here still maintaining their consistent, ignorant, closed minded approach to just about everything.

    we are all connected,
    and seeing as how resonance
and frequency is essentially, a fundamental property to all matter at the atomic level, -Music can easily be said to be the universal language
and be valid. -esp in our case, being able to convey “emotional state” or feeling with music..

(though i’m sure some theoretical mathematicians will want claim that title as well.)

Consider: Scientists use sound at 528hz to repair human DNA as one clue..and that sound, as well as pulsed electromagnetic fields,
[and the harmonics of both] can be used to do everything from modify your behaviour, to healing [and killing] the body, (or specific
body parts) to actually transmitting a disease state via EMF frequencies.

Consider: Scientists can now measure and see your Aural field, which has been measured to be about 60 feet in diameter around you..and just by looking at what “colour” it is, they can tell exactly what emotional state your in..

You know when you get that “bad vibe” from someone? -that’s you connecting to them.

Or when after being with someone for
for many years, (some, need only minutes) you both can actually pick up on the others feelings or “intent”

-for instance, you think of a snack or wanting a drink, -or a kiss..and your mate comes waltzing in to actualize your thoughts a minute or two later..

-upon first meeting two strangers the first time, your dog will instantly growl or snap at someone who is inherently an asshole, -who gives off bad vibes, -but not at the person next to them.. (and you dog owners know exactly what i’m talking about)

    That’s being “connected”

A crap load of different animals all sense a major change like an earthquake about to happen and start getting exited and begin to run to “safety”

They are all plugged in consciously
to each other and the earth itself.

That, -is how we are all connected.

Most of us have been too dumbed down to “feel” anything anymore, esp here in the U.S.

We *used to use* 50 to 100% of our brain, now we only use 10%.

    -Ten friggen percent!

We have been de-volving, not evolving.

When it comes the idea that we are all connected, we have been the champions of the “scientific disinformation campaign” of the world in teaching that everything in the universe stands alone, unconnected and unaffected by it’s surroundings.

–when all the real evidence proves beyond a shadow of a doubt, the exact
    opposite is true.

Shatter the mirror that is reflecting the false image of the true reality and embrace once and for all, your true spirit and nature.

    -set your heart free.

    Universal consciousness awaits you.

Nice one. Yup I guess it’s true we’re just a blue speck floating in a gigantic unfathomable void with all the other specks. Might as well get used to it.

Love that vocoder sound. I have one myself, and it’s truly mind blowing to be able to turn one’s guitar riffs into lyrics.

  18. KneeJerk Optimist says:

Oh yeah, I remember the talk box, which was indeed a precursor of vocoders, and they were quite interesting and probably did need some practice to play them well. Electronic sound, though, is a musical discipline in itself with effects far beyond acoustically generated timbres and such.

But all that matters as far as I’m concerned: Is it fun to listen to? (and that’s pretty personal)

-agreed. to that end, i suggest
you acquire a copy of Propeller head’s Reason 3.0 (or 4.0) Virtual studio and a cheap (but v.good) velocity sensitive keyboard like M-Audio’s Oxygen 8

Synthesizers, samplers, drum machine, REX file loop player, professional mastering tools, mixer, vocoder, world class effects, pattern sequencer and more. As many of each as your computer can handle. Reason is an infinitely expandable all-in-one music production environment, complete with its own realtime sequencer.

    http://propellerheads.se/products/reason/

I may be an anal audio purist, but i am no idiot..esp if fun is to be had.

But all that matters as far as I’m concerned: Is it fun to listen to? (and that’s pretty personal)

FUN is the ONLY prime directive..

If you can get a hold of the above software and any decent (USB) velocity sensitive keyboard.

You will have a blast creating music that will blow your mind for life..and you can do it w/no prior knowledge…preferably, just need some innate rhythm.

stuff that software in a laptop, grab some headphones and the keyboard and go sit under a tree in the sun and let
    the music flow..

If you spend money on anything, spend it on Reason 3.0 or 4.0

it will provide you with a new dimension to explore. -even when the net is long gone..

    That I promise you.

    -s

(failing that, get a nylon string guitar and learn to play the classics. -or maybe Martin D18 for warmth..)
