The local police chief in Ozark, Arkansas is standing behind one of his officers who tasered a 10-year-old girl who was refusing to go to bed. The bizarre story is laid out in a police incident report obtained by website The Smoking Gun.

Officer Dustin Bradshaw was called to the home by a woman complaining that her daughter was being unruly and refusing to go to sleep. Bradshaw wrote that when he arrived at the home, he found Kiara Medlock “balled up in (sic) the floor crying and screaming.” After watching her mother attempt to get Kiara into the bathtub with little success, Bradshaw took the girl into the living room and threatened her with jail.

Bradshaw then tried to handcuff Kiara. But he couldn’t manage that either.

To hear Bradshaw tell it, he was now in the midst of a full-on brawl on the living-room floor with Kiara, a Grade 5 student. The 65-pounder was “verbally combative … struck me with her legs and feet in the groin,” Bradshaw wrote. That’s when he reached for his holster and delivered a “very very (sic) brief drive stun to her back with my taser.” Unsurprisingly, Kiara’s struggling stopped immediately. Bradshaw then cuffed her and carried her to his squad car, since she could no longer walk.

The incident hit the news when Kiara’s father, Anthony Medlock, took exception. Medlock does not live with Kiara’s mother.

“I want to know how the heck in God’s green earth can they get away with this … If you can’t pick the kid up and take her to your car, handcuff her, then I don’t think you need to be an officer,” Medlock told local Ozark 40/29 news.

At first, I thought this was from the Onion…but truth can be stranger than fiction.

There must be more to this story! We can’t reach a conclusion until we know ALL the information!

If she didn’t want to get tazed she shouldn’t have been resisting bed time!

Before cops had tazers, she would’ve been shot instead! Is that what you want?

It’s really stressful to be a cop!

    blah blah blah…

  2. bamf says:

He tased a 10 year old girl who had done nothing illegal.

He TASED a 10 year old girl who had done nothing illegal.

He fucking TASED a 10 year old girl who had done nothing illegal.

At the very least he should get charged with child endangerment and assault, and should be open to any civil case ether parent wants to make against him.

  3. clancys_daddy says:

Fire him, spank her, and smack the ever loving shit out of mom for calling the cops in the first damn place. The should be a license to procreate.

  4. Chriswsm says:

Why on earth tazer the little girl

Pepper spray would have been more fun

  5. Chriswsm says:

and a licence to procreate is something I would vote for

  6. me says:

I think the true irony of the story is that it’s the mother who is complaining.

Damn, she’s the one who called the police because she couldn’t get her 10 year old to go to bed. Besides being a huge waste of tax money, when your a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Cops have learned to taze first and ask questions later.

In my opinion it’s the mother who deserved tazing, not the kid.

  7. jfreeman says:

    This is just sickening.

  8. RTaylor says:

Read the article, the father said the child has a history of emotional disorders. The mother clearly isn’t able to handle the child, better luck to the Dad. The cop had no reason to be there.

  9. Max Bell says:

This just screams “too pussy to be a cop”.

  10. Ward William says:

I do not have sufficient words to express the stupidity that is occurring in the good old U.S of A.
You people up there are real whack jobs. They could not make a movie as screwy as you people are in real life.
Problem is that if there were such a thing as a license to procreate, there would be no in the U.S eligible. (Place end of rant marker here)

  11. bob says:

I do not agree with the cops actions. However, it appears that he did not Taser the kid, he used the “stun gun” part of the gun.

The cartridge that holds the wires and probes that shoot out comes off (so you can reload). When you take the cartridge off you have what is in essence a stun gun with the electrodes and spark gap that we have all seen. This is more of a last resort measure.

HOWEVER, this means that the cops had the time and foresight to remove the cartridge and then use the Taser as a stun gun. If he had the ti,e to do this, he wasn’t in a “full on” fight with anyone.

  12. Chuck says:

    @11

Several models of tasers have dual-modes. You can use as either a contact-range stun gun or fire the probes.

  13. ikapuza89 says:

    This is truly pathetic.

  14. Faxon says:

I love this story. Fucking brat deserved it.

  15. Li says:

It takes a village to taze a child.

  16. smartalix says:

    11,

And that reduces the f^cking electrical charge given to the 10-year-old victim how?

  17. Cap'nKangaroo says:

Let’s just ignore the tazing (or stun gun, whatever) for a moment, which I admit is a tall order.

“After watching her mother attempt to get Kiara into the bathtub with little success, Bradshaw took the girl into the living room and threatened her with jail.

Bradshaw then tried to handcuff Kiara. But he couldn’t manage that either.”

An earlier poster said this girl has emotional problems. And after this incident, those problems will be compounded. Where the hell does this cop come off saying he is going to arrest someone for not going to bed!

And the police chief is backing up his officer!!

  18. jbellies says:

    I summon the BS-o-meter:

“Officer Dustin Bradshaw was called to the home by a woman complaining that her daughter was being unruly and refusing to go to sleep.”

    That’s a 10 – total BS.

  19. Uncle Patso says:

The local police chief stood behind Bradshaw and his decision.

“He had no other choice. He had to get the child under control…”

Why? Who made it his job?

No one in this story comes off well. The mother:FAIL. The cop:FAIL. The father:FAIL. The police chief:FAIL. The kid’s the only one I have any feeling for, and she didn’t exactly come off in a complimentary light either…

  20. Mr. Fusion says:

As truly stupid as this is, it will happen again and again.

This morning I read about some Canadian 15 year old tween “star” about to make an appearance on Long Island NY. The waiting crowd got unruly and the police arrived. They ended up arresting the promoter because he didn’t help disperse the crowd. They also warned the kid that if he did appear he too would be arrested.

Arresting someone for not helping the police because he wouldn’t send a “twitter”? Charging him with child endangerment? Tazering four girls? (shows in another report)

This is the world the right wings nuts want for us.

  21. Metro says:

What the local news never discovered/published was the mother of the child was a dispatcher/jailer who called the officer on his private cell phone. Maybe she thought it would scare the girl? She’s been fired herself since this happened, and was known to call people with warrants to let them know the cops were on the way. Sad.
