it’s amazing there’s video of this and yet there’s also video of birds getting sucked into air intakes and taking down fighters seconds into flight.

This does add meaning to the “…on a wing and a prayer…” saying…

    (sorry, just couldn’t resist)

this reminded me of this famous Citoen 70’s commercial:

    That guy’s got mad skillz.

Oh man….I wanted to keep watching it. Didn’t they find that the Mig-25 was basically just a bucket-of-bolts at that time?

That’s just amazing about the F-15. This and the A-10 Warthog are my favorites. Yeah…it’s a guy thing…

Another great example of copyrighted content, this time stolen from the History Channel, posted on YouTube!

    QUOTE:
“The most outstanding Eagle save was by a pilot from a foreign air force. During air combat training his two seater F-15 was involved in a mid air collision with an A-4 Skyhawk. The A-4 crashed, and the Eagle lost it’s right wing from about 2ft. outboard. After some confusion between the instructor who said eject, and the student who outranked his instructor and said no, the F-15 was landed at it’s desert base. Touching down at 290 kt, the hook was dropped for an approach and engagement. This slowed the F-15 to 100 kt, when the hook weak link sheared, and the aircraft was then braked conventionally. It is said that the student was later demoted for disobeying his instructor, then promoted for saving the aircraft.

McDonnel Douglas attributes the saving of this aircraft to the amount of lift generated by the engine intake/body and “a hell of a good pilot”.

Tailhook on a land-based fighter? What’s with that? Granting for one minute that this isn’t an elaborate hoax, he missile analogy was the only one I could think of. But a missile has the incalculable advantage of being symmetrical – nothing much on either side. Asymmetrical drag alone (overlooking lift for a moment) should make the plane (nearly?) uncontrollable. I call “fake” or, more gently, SPOOF!

  8. ECA says:

    Its real,
the US gov spent LOTS of money to show that:
With a BIG enough engine you can make a BRICK fly. you cant stear well, but it flys.

  9. BL says:

The video footage is fake, but the stills are real.

    #10
as proved in every mid size fighter/bomber the US approve…
