it’s amazing there’s video of this and yet there’s also video of birds getting sucked into air intakes and taking down fighters seconds into flight.
This does add meaning to the “…on a wing and a prayer…” saying…

That’s just amazing about the F-15. This and the A-10 Warthog are my favorites. Yeah…it’s a guy thing…

Tailhook on a land-based fighter? What’s with that? Granting for one minute that this isn’t an elaborate hoax, he missile analogy was the only one I could think of. But a missile has the incalculable advantage of being symmetrical – nothing much on either side. Asymmetrical drag alone (overlooking lift for a moment) should make the plane (nearly?) uncontrollable. I call “fake” or, more gently, SPOOF!
