Crucify

RIYADH (Reuters) – A Saudi court of cassation upheld a ruling to behead and crucify a 22-year-old man convicted of raping five children and leaving one of them to die in the desert, newspapers reported on Tuesday.

The convict was arrested earlier this year after a seven-year old boy helped police in their investigation. The child left in the desert after the rape was three years old, Okaz newspaper said.

International rights groups have accused the kingdom, the birthplace of Islam, of applying draconian justice, beheading murderers, rapists and drug traffickers in public. So far this year about 40 people have been executed in Saudi Arabia.

In Saudi Arabia, crucifixion means tying the body of the convict to wooden beams to be displayed to the public after beheading.

Or will they behead then crucify? That would seem pointless.

  1. zorkor says:

Beheading is permitted in Islam if the guardians of the kids he raped wont forgive him. He will be beheaded and then crucified just to warn the wanna be criminals against acts like this in the future.

Rape crimes are very very rare due to stiff punishments and when they do happen, the govt makes sure they get the stiffest punishment possible.

There will also be a £10 fine.

  3. JimR says:

They’ll get it right someday. At first they would chop off your head and then hang you…

    Remember the Michael Faye incident?

Bet if he ever goes back to Singapore, he leaves the spray-paint at home.

caning, the stocks/public humiliation for small offenses is not such a bad thing.

PS, they should crucify this bastard and let him hang there for three days, then behead him. Let the families for the victims administrate the first blows.

  5. B.Dog says:

Try leaving your wallet on the hood of your car in a city there, go walk around for a while, and it will be there when you get back. Don’t try this at home kids.

Given the House of Saud’s abysmal human rights record and a justice system that belongs in the dark ages, I really am surprised by the number of “we should do this here” comments.

You don’t know if this guy has a single digit IQ. You don’t know if the charges are even true. He could be a political prisoner or a homosexual for all you’ve been told.

I’m pleased and privileged to be able live in a country that doesn’t have the death penalty, where due process is followed and fair trials exist. That’s not the USA and it isn’t Saudi either.

    Spot on, old bean.

To quote Gandalf the Grey on the matter

“Deserves it! I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.”

  13. Headshaker says:

    @Monty

I think there’s really two issues that you’re expounding. The first is the morality of the death penalty, the second is the application of the legal process(es). #29 touched on the latter point too.

To the second I agree with you, has this man received a fair trial, due process, etc. Is he actually guilty of the crimes he has been convicted of.

The question (should he be guilty) of whether he deserves death will no doubt split the votes here on the comments page of DU. Is there a crime(s) worthy of death? And if there is, surely raping five children and leaving one to die of thirst and hunger in the desert should be in the list.

  14. YeeeeeeHaaaa says:

    Biblical…..

    Assuming a fair trial.

    And Just….

First, the DNA is cutoff from polluting the general population.

Second, I suspect this is a HUGE deterrent to anyone who considers it in the future. In the US, there is no real deterrent. As a result, the judicial system is bogged down with lunacy. With enough $$$$, you get away almost scot free. Just ask OJ.

  15. Dizzie says:

Iv been to saudi, they law is strict as shit..not sure what they do is legal but they’d cut your right hand off if you are caught robbing a store and behead you if you did a serious crime…and this is all done in public..wen i was about 13 i saw acrowd shouting stuff in arabic my dad said some guys hand was being cutoff..

  16. Animby says:

    # 45 YeeeeeeHaaaa said, “…I suspect this is a HUGE deterrent…”

Oh, I hate to be serious about such things but I’m afraid you’re quite wrong. The best example is how much capitol crime was committed at the public executions in the medieval era. And those were crimes of avarice, too. When you hit the subject of crimes like baby rape, you’re talking about some serious psychological shit. (Pardon me for using medical jargon.) Someone who’s psyche demands he rape children of that age is not giving in to a suppressible sexual urge but to a much deeper and darker need. I’m afraid the Saudi’s may have hit upon the only way, other than decades of intense psychiatric care, to curb the itch.

    # 44 GetSmart said, “I’ll bet there aren’t all that many camels or camel beauty pageants in Texas.”

Hey Get, have you ever seen a beauty pageant at UT? What’s your preference: One hump or two?

Oh, I hate to be serious about such things but I’m afraid you’re quite wrong. The best example is how much capitol crime was committed at the public executions in the medieval era.

Two points. First, criminals do crimes and take precautions believing they won’t be caught. There are very few deterrents that will overcome that concept. (Remember that the next time you are speeding and you see a cop) Any criminal committing a crime with the intent of being caught deserves to be put in an asylum.

Second, while I acknowledge your intent, using a semi anarchistic time period such as the Medieval Ages is a non-starter. Murder was quite common, the Judiciary was totally corrupt, and torture was the common method of extracting a confession.

I notice that some of the posters screaming for the man’s immediate death also would like to see most of the Middle East obliterated from the map. Well, that part above ground, leave the oil.

    @Mikey Twit #9

“When it comes to protecting/avenging our children, parents can dig up rage and vengeance that a Jihadist can only dream of.”

Yes, anti-pedophilia is the religious fundamentalism of the West. If this guy did what he was accused of doing, it’s not something anyone can defend. But the truth of the matter is people like that are exceptions of the exceptions. Yet attitudes that call for the hanging of “child rapists” will be applied to people who do not rape, maybe do not even touch children. When Obama stood during the election campaign and declared it reasonable to execute child rapists, he was defending a law that made it legal to execute men who downloaded pictures or met with cops at Burger King in an online sting.

  20. Animby says:

#49 – Fussy Fusion: My comment was not meant to be anachronistic (or even anarchistic) merely historical. For as long as we have institutionalized the death penalty, it has always been claimed to be a deterrent but never shown to be. However, one could make a case the Saudis have not advanced much since those times.

BTW, I, for one, would NOT like to see the Middle East obliterated, I find much to enjoy there (especially Egypt) and have many friends throughout the area. I would like, however, to see Islam removed from the face of the earth. Along with Christianity and all other religions. We can keep Buddhism since it (as pointed out before) is a philosophy of life not a religion. I guess we could keep Scientology, too, since it’s not a religion so much as a live action science fiction novel.

Okay. Bring on Alfie and the Scientologists. I can take it.

It always comes down to the same thing for those whom are for capital punishment.

They all think its dandy like candy when they are NOT on the receiving end.

And don’t try to say you’d be man enough to take it as you did the crime. That brave talk goes right out the window when sodium thiopental hits the IV.

This “victim” ought to have moved to Canada where the judges find nothing but excuses for villains who commit heinous crimes – alcoholic family background , victim of society , grew up on wrong side of tracks etc etc etc
Yet just don’t declare 2 $ of income and they sure will come after you , no excuses allowed

  23. Marticus says:

I think they should skip the decapitation and go right for castration.

  24. Jopa says:

For once, the Arabs get it right.
    🙂
    Rapist + Pedophile + Murderer == beheading + crucifixion.

  25. Jopa says:

On second thought, I am not too sure about the crucifixion thing as it may be somewhat touchy with christians.
It’s not that they are doing it in the middle of the vatican but nevertheless…

I would suggest beheading + hanging upside down from the legs.
    Good enough IMO.

  26. Mr. Fusion says:

    #51, Animby,

Then we are in close agreement sir.

  27. theTruth says:

when they say “crucify”, they mean putting the beheaded body on wooden planks in order to display it to the public. they behead him first, then display the body. no religious connotations, not the same kind of crucifixion.

  28. The topic by itself about killing child rapists is fine, but when people start to praise the judicial system of Saudi Arabia then you are merely helping with the propoganda of this nation.

In Saudi Arabia all converts from Islam to Christianity face the death penalty; not one single Christian church or Buddhist temple is allowed; women are punished if they do not fully cover up or if they talk to men in public; old men are allowed to marry very young children; homosexuals face the death penalty; and petty criminals face having their hands chopped off.

Saudi Arabia is a criminal state and this nation is spreading radical Islam worldwide.

Also, September 11th was a terrorist attack which was mainly done by Saudi Arabians.

    WAKE UP!
