Japanese toilet training cartoons

When it comes to talking about bodily functions, the Japanese are pretty open. It is not uncommon to hear friends and coworkers having conversations about consptipation, diaherria and other bowel movement-related topics. Judging from these cartoons I found on youtube, toilet training is also something that is embraced without embarassment:

  1. Mr. H. Fusion says:

What a way to start the day.

    “Bye bye”

  2. OhForTheLoveOf says:

    I know this won’t sound good, but…

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH JAPAN!!!!!???!!!!!

(please never link something like that again)

  3. Donald says:

It’s probably not the fact that it’s a Japanese thing it’s probably the fact it’s just a kids thing. I dare you to watch an entire episode of Sesame Street and not lose your sanity.

  4. OhForTheLoveOf says:

No… I think its a Japanese thing, but perhaps its made worse by being a kid’s thing…

Japan is such a remarkably interesting country and culture to me, as an American. Japan’s culture produces a lot of truly alien artifacts. Many are very interesting, and a few a hugely repulsive (to me).

This video, however, has given me a reason not to hate Pokemon so much. So that’s good. 🙂

I’m pretty open to frank discussions and images about sexuality. I don’t shy away from heated political or religious debate. I’m not very squeamish…

But what happens in the toilet, by God, that should never be discussed outside the confines of a bathroom or a doctor’s office.

  5. edwinrogers says:

This isn’t a Japanese phenomenon. Working around a lot old guys, they more often than is necessary chat openly about their diseases over coffee. What is it with old people! One recently retired guy had a hip replacement operation and brought the removed specimen to show us, in glass preserving jar. Well, that was a conversation starter.

  6. cozu says:

OK, Im Japanese. First, I just laughed at this video.

This is not the way Japanese parents teach toilet training. It’s like funny (or stupid) people on American TV commercials are not like that in their real life. Thoes videos, TV commercials are over-emphasized. But I think we still see the culutural difference by comparing those stuff.
