Six guys, 1,300 miles and seven burger joints: It’s a road trip made in antacid heaven — If you really like burgers and ever float around Washington State, then this article is for you, kind of.

I personally would have handled this review much differently since these jokers seemed to be preoccupied with enormous (aka one to five pounders) burgers. These are ludicrous “freak” burgers that are more of a joke and conversation piece than anything people actually order. In fact the Pacific Northwest has some very unusual burgers many served with a fried egg on top of the meat. An actual exploration of these burgers with breakdowns and photos would be a great idea. But these guys, because of their freakshow quantity-over-quality orientation managed to travel 1300 miles to review only 7 places? What a joke.

Three years ago, Alex Bennett and Kyle Buckingham of Sammamish were arguing about which burger was the best in the area. They decided to devote seven days to researching the question, and they have revisited the issue each succeeding year with four more friends — Ryan King, Tyson Williams, Kyle Flotlin and Mark Benson. This year, Burger Tour 2006 traveled 1,300 miles across Washington to crown a new king. Here is Bennett’s day-by-day report.

  2. Angel H. Wong says:

Who bets that one of these guys will have a stroke the moment he lifts a heavy object?

How cool….it looks like a bunch of young guys(the best burger eaters) having a great time. I’m not disappointed in the lack of a large number of places, after all, how many can there be that serve a great burger.
I would just like to watch them flip the tsunami burger……lol

  4. RTaylor says:

One of the best burgers I had wasn’t technically a burger, but made from a patty of ground shrimp, conch, and crab meat. I admit I prefer seafood over cow flesh, I often serve burgers made with fried oysters.

  5. It’s probably called a Tsunami burger because when it’s flipped it creates a tidal wave of fat.

  6. Raff says:

    #5 crabby patties?

  7. Burger boy..yumm

I’m glad i stopped by for this one…
No not another good year blimp joke…more like the Macy’s thanksgiving day Float.

Talk about a future job as a food tester.

#7, oh oh, I think someone found the secret recipe for Crabby Patties. Kill ‘im !!!

  9. Alex Bennett says:

Hey friends. My name is Alex Bennett. Founder and President of Washington State Burger Tour, and author of the PI article/journal. Only 7 places? First of all we went to 15 while on tour, we only RATED 7 to make it fit with our oficial title WA State Burger Tour WEEK, secondly those seven had to qualify for the prestigous spot on our roster. We have a list of over 50 and we plan on rating at least 7 more every year for a loooong time. Every year we try to get a healthy mix of novelty (you call them “freak” which is a term I would NEVER use to describe a burger because I love them so much) burgers, Drive-in burgers and sit-down restaurant burgers. Didn’t you read the article before posting??BTW 4 of the 6 members are underweight…
