The son of Tarzan actor Johnny Weissmuller has launched a lawsuit to gain possession of the loincloth worn by his father in the role that made him a star. The skimpy item of clothing was donated to Florida’s Swimming Hall of Fame in the 1960s, together with the five Olympic gold medals that Weissmuller won as an athlete
But Bruce Wigo, president of the Swimming Hall of Fame, argues that the family has no claim to the loincloth. “Johnny said that this was where he wanted his memorabilia,” he argued. “His legacy is preserved here.”
Johnny Weissmuller died in 1984, at the age of 80. At his request a recording of the famous Tarzan yell was played as his coffin was lowered into the ground.
The family gets it, then we see it on ebay.
Listening to the end — how did anyone keep a straight face at the funeral?
#2, that’s probably the whole point. Johnny probably knew that people would smile or even laugh at hearing it.
Out of all the actors that played Tarzan, Johnny Weissmuller was the best. I sure did love his movies when I was a kid. I also think that Weissmuller had the best Tarzan yell. That recording is of poor quality and doesn’t do him justice.
I guess that Judy Garland gets the Ruby Shoes Now ! And Neal Armstrong get the Moon rocks.
He made it quite clear what he wanted done with the items, so the family will lose.
I just hope someone washed that sucker.
Larry the Cable Guy should have “Got-er done” played when his coffin is lowered into his grave.
