From NPR’s Planet Money, who does one of the best economy podcasts. So where are the Asians on the chart?

  1. pedro's Mom is horny as Goat Weed says:

pedro, honey, I didn’t want your to bring me your other boy friend, I wanted Alfred1 and Alfredo Sauce!!!

Now be a good son and do as your moma says.

  2. Benjamin says:

I would like to see that chart and compare it with the illegitimacy rate broken down by race. Seems like it would be the inverse.

Too many single parent families causing poverty in minority communities. Barack Obama mentioned something about this during the campaign when he talked about dead beat dads.

  3. LibertyLover says:

#32, My question is, why is the stock market approaching 10k when the consumer is not consuming??

Here is an explanation. It really makes sense, in a poetic kinda way.

  4. Blind Stevie says:

A beautiful graph with the lower portion truncated to make the differences in the data look more impressive. This technique is explained in Darrel Huff’s classic book “How to Lie with Statistics”. An intelligent person should immediately be skeptical of any argument which employs this trick and never, never trust the person who does so.

  5. The0ne says:

    and Asians? O.o

  6. qb says:

    #41 Blind Steve

Quite right. Also missing variance information (e.g. standard error bars).

Someone posted a Q. on Why is the stock market going up..
SAME reason as with year 2000.
TO MANY people think the STOCK MARKET is the way to SHOW a solid company..
To many companies have NOT used the OLD style of BUSINESS..
YOU PUT the money back into the company. YOU make things WORK. YOU DO your OWN R&D. You build the WEB SITE from INSIDE the company(so what you hire 2 persons to do it) its not another COMPANY doing it.
Currently, when companies NEED MONEY, they force THEIR price up in stocks, to get the money, INSTED of relying on THEIR OWN profits. They FORK money over to let SMALLER(?) companies do the WORK, and THIS is considered a TAX write off. funny part is that OTHER small company DISAPPEARS, and the IRS cant find them. The site is up, but the money is GONE(??)..(hidden profits)
Companies have LEARNED that its easier to RENT from others(EVERYTHING from desks to rugs) as they can WRITE IT OFF..THEN that little company that RENTED to them DISAPPEARS..

The IRS needs a BETTEr computer system to keep track of ALL that is happening. ALL those state Business licenses, and the INTERCONNECTIONS and spending that is happening.

I have said before..LARGE CORPS should NOT be allowed on the market.
The STOCK market for Corps should be regulated on the VALUE of product they OWN, not GOODS or GOODS sold.
The Stock market is/was BASED on FARMERS and goods they were selling. it was a PROTECTION for major price changes.. and getting GOODS to market. Major corps dont REALLY have this problem. THEY HAVE A MARKET. the GAS companies KNOW who they are selling to, and THEY are the distributors.

  8. 888 says:

Since Blacks are called “african americans”
why Whites are not called “european americans”?

Regardless of skin color, most americans are so dumb, lol

  9. smittybc says:

For an accurate answer to #32, the reason the market is approaching 10k is because the Fed is injecting the market with liquidity. It can do this in a deflationary period without problems. But it allows the 1970’s specter of inflation in the tent. Remember 1974’s 29.7% loss was followed by 1975’s massive 31.5% gain, even when in Q1 1975 the US economy shrunk at a brutal 4.8% annual rate.

Money in the absence of productivity is inflationary end of story. Looming under the surface of the market is a bulge of monetary accommodation and a bounce-back in monetary velocity, which could double the rate of inflation over the next 18 months.

This amount of inflation is sustainable, the question is has the private sector been allowed to repair itself enough to absorb this excess through productivity increases? The president admonishing Wall Street for being greedy (which is something literally a priest should do) and vowing to curb “out of control profits” is not encouraging.

Whether inflation moves higher after that is an open question. And the answer depends on how quickly the Fed unwinds its massive liquidity injections. We will see, until that foot drops the market will go up.
